I've come to the conclusion with my celebrity blogs that, in respect of making money, they are only as good as the last post. What I write decides how many visitors I get for that day and this, in turn, is my money making thermometer. Write a hot post and the money rises, do an average post and things get a bit chilly on the money front.
Celebrity blogs are different from a lot of other niches because readers seem to want the latest news. This can be exciting. One of my new blogs had over 3000 visitors in a day but then, a few days later, there was a reality check when the stats showed only 250 hits.
But thinking about this, to a degree, all blogs are dependent on the latest post. I wonder when you visit a blog for the first time how many posts you actually read. It's often the latest post that gets us the return visitors, the subscribers and the clicks on anything we are promoting. Do a rubbish post and the visitor won't linger to investigate some of the better material.
I guess what this illustrates is that old cliche about 'content being king'. If we drop our standards we are missing an opportunity to sell ourselves to the reader.
If this is the case perhaps, if one day we are under the weather or can't think of a good topic, we shouldn't post.
What's best: to post every day or to write less often and have good material?
It's actually not an easy answer as there are benefits for both sides of the argument. Ideally, of course, we should write quality stuff every day.
Sometimes it's possible to theorise too much about blogging - what we should really be doing is simply enjoying ourselves.
Good luck,
Mike.
