There was a man who was desperate to find out the secrets of life and other mysteries. He read about this Great Master or Guru who lived in a faraway place and how this wise one knew all of the ancient and modern secrets that he was seeking. The man decided that, despite the place being so very far away, he would travel to see the Master. Success would then be his. Excitedly and full of enthusiasm he started his journey.
To cut a very long story short, after travelling by plane, boat, train, oxen, yak and on foot he eventually reached the mountain at the top of which the wise Master lived.
The mountain was one of the highest in the world but undaunted he set out to reach his goal. He couldn't give in now.
Even though afraid of heights he started his climb towards the summit. The rocks were loose and crumbly and for every few steps he made he also slipped backwards a few. He persevered and also traversed open gullies and sheer rock faces.
The journey was taking him much longer than expected. His food supply was down to a minimum and his water supply was soon used up. His clothes became torn and tattered but somehow, crawling on his knees, even though cut and bruised, and with tears in his eyes, he reached the summit.
He was surprised to see others at the top walking around, laughing and happy. He thought that this must at the very least be Shangri-La.
Barely able to walk he staggered to the Master's dwelling and begged for an audience. He was invited inside and after a long wait his request was met.
The kindly Master patiently listened to the man's story and heard of the hardships and difficulties the man had had encountered.
"My son," said the wise man, "What you have done, to climb the mountain, overcome such difficulties and travel through continents, is a great thing but why didn't you use the same road up the mountain that everyone else takes ..."
Good luck,
Mike.
