Through my involvement I was offered some freelance work by an American company who wanted to launch in the UK. They had been going successfully in their own country and wanted to spread their wings, so to speak. From their literature, and their customer number base within the USA, I had the image of a very big concern.
When I met them at an hotel in Exeter I found out that there were only three people running the company plus a receptionist who was really a general dogsbody.
What fascinated me, and taught me a lesson, was that virtually all aspects of their successful business was carried out by others. They had someone who sourced their products, a fulfillment house who mailed out and packed their orders, designers to create their literature etc.
All they actually did themselves was to think and create ideas. They then got others, independent of their own business, to do all of the work.
They were successful because they had time. Time to be creative and innovative.
And, if you think about it, it's time that we need to make money with blogging. Most of us get so bogged down with the routine aspects of our blogs and our limited time soon gets used up. We don't seem to have the time to think, plan and come up with fresh ideas.
There are always exceptions to this, but most bloggers only blog on a small part time scale. This is one of the reasons, until recently, why I have steered clear of sponsored blogs. Some make very good money but they are time consuming.
Going back to my first paragraph this is why MLM works as a marketing concept. You don't have to do all of the work yourself - in fact, if you do, you are not doing it properly.
The original idea behind MLM was for lots of people (your downline) to all sell small amounts of products - and this is why the big MLM earners concentrate on recruiting others into the business (i.e. their downlines).
Has this any relevance to blogging?
Let's just say that the majority of my income from the FriendFinder Group doesn't come from my selling their services to individual customers. It comes from affiliates I have introduced - I get a percentage of what they earn.Like those American business people, I mentioned earlier, we need to look for ways to make money from our blogs which doesn't add to the number of hours that we have available.
It's working clever, not longer, that is the key to success.
