I was looking at some blog stats, for the last seven days, and was surprised to see that Zimbio sent my celebrity blog 1547 referrals over this period - that's over 220 per day.
It was all the more surprising because, though I joined Zimbio several months ago, I've done nothing more. I believe I've only been to the site once, maybe twice, since then. I remember at the time thinking that the site looked interesting but, you know how it is, there is so much else to keep track of when blogging. So who are Zimbio? Well they have a mission! They write:
"Our mission is to help you become an influential player in how stories are created, shaped and shared."
"We enable our contributors to build wikizines - interactive magazines that anyone can create or edit - with coverage of current events, cultural reference points, and niche areas of interest. We make it simple for people to compile the web's most relevant and dynamic content into easily-searched topics, so readers can find and react to the full story from multiple perspectives."
Now there are lots of similar sites around where your posts can get noticed. There does seem to be one difference, however, with Zimbio. Once registered, they will automatically import your articles (posts) to related wilkizines. This service they call 'Promote My Blog' and it's an option members can choose - otherwise everything has to be done manually. I must have clicked for the automatic option when I joined.
This is how Zimbio explains the Promote My Blog option:
"Once you select 'Promote My Blog', we'll analyze each of your new blog entries and try to match them to a related wikizine. If we find a match, we'll automatically import your article for you and generate an inbound link to your site. We'll also post a notification so you know when your article's been auto-imported. All you need to do is write great articles and we'll take care of the rest."
Though over the last seven days I've done very well in getting referrals from them I can see that Zimbio may not work for all blogs. It depends on the subject matter, or niche, of your posts.
For example, though I had those 1547 referrals to my celeb blog, I only had 4 referrals from them for Mike's Money Making Mission.
I guess though, that giving them a try can't do any harm. The only aspect that some bloggers may not like is the fact that it means some of your posts will be duplicated. I know some are a bit paranoid about this happening, mainly for Google reasons.
There are other 'benefits' to Zimbio, which you'll find on their website. No money to be made but decent referrals are, of course, often worth money.
Good luck,
Mike.
