KeyWords: Some You Win And Some You Lose

KeywordsRob over at Make Money Fa$t wrote an interesting post about how he can rank well on Google for certain keywords and then, after 8 or 9 days, they tend to disappear from view.

He put this down to the article, containing the keywords, going off of his front page.

I have noticed something similar to this myself.

I think the answer is to do a follow up post on the same subject, using the same keywords, and this often reactivates Google's interest - though this may be mainly because it is once more on the blog's front page.

I try to find time to look regularly at the keywords that have done well, in producing referrals, and then use them again to reinforce their stature. This appears to work.

It depends on what the keywords are. Some have a short shelf life. If, for example, you write about a celebrity they can be hot for a while and then everyone loses interest.

While something is hot it's the time to do several posts on the same subject. There is usually a different angle that you can hone in on. This usually helps to obtain a higher position in the rankings.

Some keywords do in fact stick for a considerable period but I find it difficult to distinguish between those which do and those that don't. With this blog some of my top keywords this month include Zlio, Konnie Huq and myLot which I haven't written about for ages.

It's a strange game, this blogging business!
