Money Making Weekly Report - Week 51

Celebrity Insider unique visitorsI'm now at week 51 of my Money Making Mission. The aim being to try and make money using only free blogs and without any capital outlay.

It's been a great week! This is mainly thanks to my Celebrity Insider blog which had 46,511 visitors over the last seven days. On the money front I did well and the new addition to my Money Making Portfolio, Voxant, helped with this.

Below are money making programs I am currently promoting - in alphabetical order, with a few comments.

AdSense $740.29
A good week. Extra visitors = extra money!

Amazon UK £5.58 ($11.16)
The context links seem to be working okay as regards getting clicks. Still not getting the orders though. There was one this week with a grand commission of 11p (22c).

As I mentioned last week a lot of the problem, as far as making money is concerned, is that my links are for Amazon UK and a lot of my visitors are from USA and the rest of the world - who are unlikely to place an order on a UK website. Not sure quite what to do about this.

AuctionAds $30.13
Not over happy with AuctionAds. I was still getting blank spaces early last week so in a fit of pique I removed them completely from most of my blogs. I can't stand to see spaces that should be filled - makes the blogs look uncared for! I'll put some ads on again during the week and see if this has now been corrected.

Convergence Inc $156.60 (over 18's only)
Again didn't promote this last week. Adult only products. They provide a free website - providing you can find a way to market it. Not suitable, for example, on this blog. They pay out on time and also small amounts. I've had checks sent to me as low as $3.50.

DIY Dating £72.99 ($145.25)
DIY also offer a free dating website with choice of designs and content plus use of their massive database. Has possibilities.

FriendFinderGroup $715.76
I'm not doing quite as well with FriendFinder recently, perhaps because my efforts are being directed elsewhere. It's a well run affiliate program though. Over 20 websites to promote ranging from Christian and Jewish friendship to Adults and Bondage! Caters for most interests.

Helium $14.07
I haven't had the time to do anything with this.

myLot $60.11
Haven't been on their website over the last week, again haven't had the time.

Write sponsored posts on your blogPayPerPost $320.83
Still going well for me plus the payments have been made on time i.e. exactly 30 days from first publishing the sponsored posts.

Sexy Ads $322.73 (over 18's only)
A well run, efficient affiliate program - if suitable for your blog!

Tradedoubler £2.38 ($4.76)
Have just joined this. Similar system to Commission Junction but Europe based. Will write more on this in the future.

Voxant $114.49
Good start, joined last Monday. I wrote a follow up post here.

You Gov £55.00 ($110.00)
Genuine survey company - they want more panel members in UK, USA and the Middle East. Get paid for completing surveys and polls.

Miscellaneous $616.65
From such things as links, sponsored blogs, adverts etc.

Total $3899.22

I've also made money from Commission Junction, Cashlinkr, Daytipper, but no longer promote these.

That's it for another week!

Good luck,
Mike.

Successful Networking For The Home Business Entrepreneur

Social networking is one of the essentials for making money online, or for any other sort of home based business. It's also extremely useful if you are still thinking about starting a money making venture. As is often said, 'it's who you know and not necessarily what you know' that helps with success.

There are lots of social networking websites about now but they have a broad spectrum of interests - teens to celebs to just about anything. Sure it might be possible to make a few good contacts but there will be a lot of dross to wade through before you do.

But what if you could join, for free, a social networking site where the emphasis is on business.

And better still, what if you could set up your own business profile and have free advertising, free classifieds and free networking. It sounds almost too good to be true. An entrepreneurs dream!

DirectMATCHES can provide all of this and more besides. They have an eight year record of success in this field and have over 65,000 members.

For anyone with a home-based business, or thinking of starting one, DirectMATCHES can help you achieve improved results.

DirectMATCHES has been set up with the business person in mind.

KeyWords: Some You Win And Some You Lose

KeywordsRob over at Make Money Fa$t wrote an interesting post about how he can rank well on Google for certain keywords and then, after 8 or 9 days, they tend to disappear from view.

He put this down to the article, containing the keywords, going off of his front page.

I have noticed something similar to this myself.

I think the answer is to do a follow up post on the same subject, using the same keywords, and this often reactivates Google's interest - though this may be mainly because it is once more on the blog's front page.

I try to find time to look regularly at the keywords that have done well, in producing referrals, and then use them again to reinforce their stature. This appears to work.

It depends on what the keywords are. Some have a short shelf life. If, for example, you write about a celebrity they can be hot for a while and then everyone loses interest.

While something is hot it's the time to do several posts on the same subject. There is usually a different angle that you can hone in on. This usually helps to obtain a higher position in the rankings.

Some keywords do in fact stick for a considerable period but I find it difficult to distinguish between those which do and those that don't. With this blog some of my top keywords this month include Zlio, Konnie Huq and myLot which I haven't written about for ages.

It's a strange game, this blogging business!

Good luck,
Mike

P.S. It's my Money Making Weekly Report tomorrow.

Money Made With News Feeds

On Monday I wrote a post Making Money With News Feeds. I said that I had just joined the Voxant Newsroom as a trial to it possibly making money.

I thought I'd report back today as it has gone quite well so far. As you will see from the stats below, for the period from Monday afternoon (when I joined) until 8 a.m. this morning, I have made $63.35.

This exceeds what I would make from say AdSense for the same roughly two-and-a-half day period.

On initial appearances, therefore, Voxant looks promising providing:

(a) You have quite high traffic to your blog.

(b) You are willing to have the video newsfeed on your blog so that they will run instantly when someone opens your page. As an example I have this running now on this blog, though it will not happen once the original post disappears from the front page. I'm using Voxant mainly for my celebrity blogs.

As you will see from the stats shown as yet I've had little response from others embedding material that has been run on my blogs - but it's early days so far.

If you compare Voxant to something like AuctionAds there is only one winner. This month with AuctionAds I have had 71,060 page impressions and just 47 clicks giving me only $7.97 earnings.

Good luck,
Mike.

Save Money On GHD Hair Straighteners

Okay I don't know much about hair straighteners! Though I am a little more knowledgeable since reading since reading the beautysleuth article Which GHD Hair Straighteners Are For You?

No, I don't use them but my wife does. What I do know about is trying to save money - it's as good as making it - and if you want ghd hair straighteners there are big savings to be made at beautysleuth, sometimes as much as £45.05 on the recommended retail price.

8 Ways To Get More Referrals From Yahoo

Last week I wrote a post Concentrate On The Top Four Search Engines, these being Google (52.7% of searches),Yahoo (20.2%), MSN/Live (13.3%) and AOL (5.5%).

A lot has been written about getting referrals from Google but I have also come across an excellent article about How To Optimize For Yahoo.

The author, Ross Dunn, suggests the following. I would recommend, however, that you read the full article to gain all of the points in more detail.

1. Title Tag: Keep the title tag as short as 5 small-medium sized words and include one complete incidence of your keyphrase. Yahoo! blatantly favours sites that include the keyphrase in the title tag.

2. Meta Description Tag: Start with key phrase and then produce a short 15–18 small-medium sized word sentence clearly describing your site.

3. Meta Keyword Tag: Yahoo still considers the keyword tag so it cannot hurt to include it. The max size of a keyword tag should be 250 characters – comma-delimited. Do not over repeat words; no more than 3 repetitions of a single word within the tag.

4. Keywords In URL: Yahoo rewards keyword-based filenames a small amount.

5. Headings: Use the page’s keyphrase within a Heading 1 tag to further enhance the visibility of the keyphrase on the page.

6. Use Alt For Images: The "Alt" text must not provide information that is already written on the website. "Alt" text is supposed to provide a clear and concise description of what the image is. Fortunately this means that adding an incidence of the keyphrase, or a portion of the keyphrase, is totally appropriate which can add slightly more credibility to your page score when Yahoo’s crawler indexes the page.

7. Inline Links: In the midst of your page it is beneficial to include links to related pages from related content.

8. Links: When building links for Yahoo concentrate on quality not quantity.

The above is a simplified list - read the full article. There is also lots of other good SEO advice on the website.

Good luck,
Mike.

Zimbio: 1547 Referrals In Seven Days

As per yesterday: If you have your speakers switched on apologies for the sound commentary. It's just to illustrate a possible money maker and the post concerned will soon disappear from the the front page - Mike.
I was looking at some blog stats, for the last seven days, and was surprised to see that Zimbio sent my celebrity blog 1547 referrals over this period - that's over 220 per day.

It was all the more surprising because, though I joined Zimbio several months ago, I've done nothing more. I believe I've only been to the site once, maybe twice, since then. I remember at the time thinking that the site looked interesting but, you know how it is, there is so much else to keep track of when blogging.

So who are Zimbio? Well they have a mission! They write:

"Our mission is to help you become an influential player in how stories are created, shaped and shared."

"We enable our contributors to build wikizines - interactive magazines that anyone can create or edit - with coverage of current events, cultural reference points, and niche areas of interest. We make it simple for people to compile the web's most relevant and dynamic content into easily-searched topics, so readers can find and react to the full story from multiple perspectives."

Now there are lots of similar sites around where your posts can get noticed. There does seem to be one difference, however, with Zimbio. Once registered, they will automatically import your articles (posts) to related wilkizines. This service they call 'Promote My Blog' and it's an option members can choose - otherwise everything has to be done manually. I must have clicked for the automatic option when I joined.

This is how Zimbio explains the Promote My Blog option:

"Once you select 'Promote My Blog', we'll analyze each of your new blog entries and try to match them to a related wikizine. If we find a match, we'll automatically import your article for you and generate an inbound link to your site. We'll also post a notification so you know when your article's been auto-imported. All you need to do is write great articles and we'll take care of the rest."

Though over the last seven days I've done very well in getting referrals from them I can see that Zimbio may not work for all blogs. It depends on the subject matter, or niche, of your posts.

For example, though I had those 1547 referrals to my celeb blog, I only had 4 referrals from them for Mike's Money Making Mission.

I guess though, that giving them a try can't do any harm. The only aspect that some bloggers may not like is the fact that it means some of your posts will be duplicated. I know some are a bit paranoid about this happening, mainly for Google reasons.

There are other 'benefits' to Zimbio, which you'll find on their website. No money to be made but decent referrals are, of course, often worth money.

Good luck,
Mike.

Making Money With News Feeds

Firstly, if you have your computer speakers turned on, apologies for the commentary now going on. It's there purely as an example of a way to make money with your blog with the Voxant Newsroom.

It's something John of Web-Dosh told me about and I'm now trying Voxant out, mainly for my celebrity blog.

Okay, below is one of the newsfeeds available for blogs and websites. This one comes under the heading of 'Odd' but there are other categories including: News (World and USA), Business, Politics, Health, Sci-Tech, Sports, Entertainment, Life etc. Each of these categories has sub-categories. There is probably something for most niches. I just picked out Odd at random .... continued after video ....

It's not necessary to put the full caboodle, as above, on a blog. You can pick out individual videos or text stories. Plus there are images (i.e. photos), press releases and so on, for which you can get paid.

Voxant make their money through advertising and there is some form of ad attached to whatever it is you embed on your blog/website.

Now the commission may not sound over generous. Payment is based on a guaranteed CPM (cost per thousand). The interesting thing, however, could be the fact that other blogs, who see your video, image, text etc., can also embed this on their own sites (without being members). Commission is paid to you on these as well (at a lower CPM). There is an embed button that makes this easy for other people to do.

Details of the commission rates can be seen here and there is an explanation of how you can earn, by others embedding material seen on your blog, here.

Unfortunately there is nothing to be earned by introducing new members to Voxant. I guess, therefore, I shouldn't really be bothering to write this post!

First Impressions
It interested me because, as I said earlier, I think it could be okay for my celebrity blogs. I've seen how videos and photos of celebs get copied from blog to blog. If I started one of these chains I can see how it could spread and possibly become a money maker.

It's all theory for now but I'll keep you updated on my Money Making Weekly Reports as to how much income (if any!) Voxant makes me.

Below is an example of a Britney Spears news item on video. The singer was recently accused of hitting a parked car and driving away.

All I can say at this stage is that it initially looks okay. The proof of the pudding, as they say, will be in the eating. I'll get back to you once I've had a proper taste.

Good luck,
Mike.

11183 Visitors Yesterday Show That Content Really Is King

Celebrity Insider blog visitorsFollowing yesterday's Money Making Report I'm chuffed to say that yesterday I ended up with 11183 hits on my celebrity blog. Needless to say this was a record.

It got me thinking though about that often written phrase of how 'content is king'. In other words everything is down to what we write on our blogs. We can have the fanciest template, know all of the quoted tricks of the trade but, if the content isn't what people want to read, we are wasting your time.

It's something I've often said before: We have to give people what they want - not what we think they want or think they should want.

If the blog content is what people want they will read it.

Probably easier said than done. And sure we still have to do the basics when writing a post: keywords in title, first sentence and again later on; long tail phrases etc. but most important is our content. Good content is also good link bait.

I think that's all I need to say today.

Good luck,
Mike.

Plastic Surgery In Prague And The Czech Republic

I didn't realise that only 10% of plastic surgery is for cosmetic purposes. I imagined it would be a much higher percentage than this but I guess this opinion is gained from the media in general.

Most plastic surgery is carried out for such things as various injuries, accidents, burns, birth defects and so on.

For whatever purpose plastic surgery is required it is expensive - at least it is in the UK. One solution is to consider having Cosmetic surgery treatments in Prague where prices are much more affordable.

A source of information about having plastic surgery, within the Czech Republic, is the website Cosmetic-plastic-surgery.info. Here you will find details of clinics, prices, patient stories, before and after photos and also information regarding the Czech required qualifications for plastic surgeons.

Money Making Weekly Report - Week 50

I'm now at week 50 of my Money Making Mission. The aim being to try and make money using only free blogs and without any capital outlay.

I'm a little bit excited today!

It's now 8.45pm here in the UK and my celebrity blog has already received 9787 hits today!

This is mainly because of my posts on Sarah Larson, two of which were 'exclusive' to the blog - at least at the time they were published.

Below are money making programs I am currently promoting - in alphabetical order, with a few comments.

AdSense $647.93
As most bloggers know AdSense works just fine, providing you comply with their rules. They pay out on time. I get my money paid straight into my UK bank account, so no problem with the amounts being in USA dollars. All you need to succeed are lots of visitors to your blog.

Amazon UK £5.47 ($10.90)
The context links seem to be working okay, at least in part, I had 70 clicks yesterday for example. Unfortunately though, for the week, there were only 3 orders and these paid minimal commission - 92p ($1.84)

As I mentioned last week a lot of the problem, as far as making money is concerend, is that my links are for Amazon UK and a lot of my visitors are from USA and the rest of the world - who are unlikely to place an order on a UK website.

AuctionAds $30.13
Not too happy with AuctionAds at the moment. I keep getting blank spaces, where ads are supposed to be, or no auction details shown. This is isn't good enough. I'll persist until next pay out but will have to place the ads in not so prominent positions. My CTR is only 0.32% which, again, isn't good enough.

Convergence Inc $156.60 (over 18's only)
Didn't promote this last week.

FriendFinderGroup $714.77
I don't seem to be doing quite as well with FriendFinder recently. A well run affiliate program though. For instance I had a query last week and they answered within 24 hours. Over 20 websites to promote ranging from Christian and Jewish friendship to Adults and Bondage! Caters for most interests.

Helium $13.85
I like this site but you have to be prepared to write quite a few articles to earn anything worthwhile. I haven't had the time to do this.

myLot $60.00
Haven't been on their website over the last week, again haven't had the time.

Write sponsored posts on your blogPayPerPost $280.83
It runs efficiently as far as I'm concerned. Money is paid for sponsored posts 30 days after being published and on time. I wouldn't, but it's now possible to write up to three sponsored post per day - subject to conditions.

Sexy Ads $322.73 (over 18's only)
A well run, efficient affiliate program - if suitable for your blog!

You Gov £52.00 ($103.00)
Genuine survey company - want more panel members in UK, USA and the Middle East.

Miscellaneous $576.65
From such things as links, sponsored blogs, adverts etc.

Total $3559.97

I've also made money from Commission Junction, Cashlinkr, Daytipper, but no longer promote these.

Thanks for the visit!

Good luck,
Mike.

BlogRush: All Is Not Gold That Glitters

Rush is the right word. Everywhere I look I seem to come across BlogRush.

I'm being told over and over that it's 'the fastest and easiest way to instantly drive a flood of targeted readers to your blog - absolutely free!'

But how do the writers know this?

The truth is they don't. They are just jumping on the latest craze and mustn't miss out.

Some big names are on board including, I thought surprisingly, ProBlogger - though with a few reservations.

Okay, here's my pennyworth. Call it what you want but it's a multi-level scheme, some would say a pyramid. One of the enticements is that it goes down ten levels.

10 levels! Wow!! How many people would this be all helping you get traffic?

Reality check: The majority of people in such schemes never reach ten levels.

Then there is the pure mathematics of such a plan. You know the sort of thing - if everyone gets five people on 10 levels you would need xxxxxxxxxx people. But then you have to remember that those xxxxxxxxxx each need people ... and so it goes on until everyone on the planet needs to have a blog.

Of course BlogRush disagree with this and, in fairness, this is what they say about it being a pyramid.

'Anyone that is saying this doesn’t understand how BlogRush works…

EVERY SINGLE IMPRESSION GETS REWARDED FOR *THAT* IMPRESSION AS IT HAPPENS. There is no promise of future rewards based on referral activity today. Each and every impression of the widget (and impression of the 5 headlines per widget) is rewarded AS IT HAPPENS. And when all the math is said and done, it also leaves 1 out of every 10 headline spaces left-over for BlogRush to use to monetize the service.'

So that's their opinion, capital letters and all.

With any pyramid, and it is a pyramid (though not a dodgy one where money changes hands), it's the early birds - the big guys - who do well. The promoters ensure this.

I'll do a forecast. Soon there will be success stories, about BlogRush, on blog posts by a 'Bob BigBlogger' (no, not the real name!). These will then be picked up by smaller blogs who will repeat the story within their own posts, as proof that it all works just great. And a buzz will be created.

Some bloggers will be left scratching their heads and wondering why their flood hasn't happened?

Let's look at a different angle and the case of ProBlogger. On September 19th he wrote that his 'headlines have been shown around 70,000 times'.

"Wow!" you might say, "This proves it does work."

But, and there's always a but, out of this he only had 35 clicks to his blog. That's a Click Through Rate of a 'measly' 0.05%. You wouldn't be happy if you only got this with an affiliate program or even AdSense.

"But it's still extra traffic," you might argue, "even if not a flood."

Yes, but ProBlogger is a big guy, he gets something like 6,500 hits a day on his blog anyway. Most other bloggers aren't going to get no where near the number of 'headlines' he gets. That's not being negative, it's a reality. He has the ability to introduce a lot of people into BlogRush from amongst his followers.

Now look at the BlogRush widget.

Partly the failure of the limited clicks is because the widgets aren't, in the majority of cases, being given a good position on blogs. The design isn't very good either - just my opinion obviously. If they are stuck at the bottom of a page, as an after thought, they aren't going to be noticed to any worthwhile degree.

One point I would make: If you are with BlogRush put a lot of thought into your 'headline' that will be shown on these widgets. Some I've seen won't get clicked in a Month of Sundays. ProBlogger has written some other tips here.

Okay, I'll stop there!

I feel with all programs like BlogRush we should adopt the attitude of my friend Matt on Blog About Your Blog.

He writes, "Before I posted about 'how great Blog Rush is' I wanted to know more about it. Why post about 'how much traffic you can get' with Blogrush if you don’t even know yourself?" Spot on!

Facts not hype is what we need.

Good luck!
Mike.

Printers For All

Printers have come a long way from the old dot matrix style over the last few years

My own is a three in one: printer scanner copier. Whereas a while back my office seemed to be stacked out with equipment now one little printer produces most of what I need. Great quality photos, the odd photocopy plus it will scan all of the pictures onto my computers that I haven't taken myself.

Dell have a range of printers for home and the home office plus more heavy duty models for business needs. The Dell Workgroup laser printer, for example, is designed specifically for the monochrome printing needs of medium and large workgroups.

Whatever your printer needs Dell might just have what you are looking for, with prices as low as £37.87. Have a look at their website.

A Few Ways To Make Money

Not strictly about blogging but a few money making ideas I've come across this week.

On eBay
I wrote a post previously about making money through misspellings on eBay. This mentioned the website fat fingers which can help with this.

I've now realised that you can view eBay entries, where some may have misspellings, by using the * symbol when searching on their site. An example of this would be wedg* if searching for Wedgwood china or pottery. Many people spell this incorrectly.

The idea is that misspelled products are likely to get less bids than those spelt properly. Therefore you can buy cheaply and sell on for a profit. That's the theory anyway.

money from virtual currencyDealing In Virtual Currency
This is something I've only just come across but it seems it has a potential for making money. The website is Sparter. It's all about buying and selling virtual currency associated with online games. You can buy and sell the currency on Sparter for games such as Warcraft, EverQuest and so on. Based on an eBay format.

Second Life moneyMoney From Second Life Game
It's also said that the game Second Life has made a few players quite rich. One was Anshe Chung who reportedly makes more than $150,000 a year from the game.

Money can be earned in various ways including designing avatars or by buying land and renting it to others etc. Not something for me. I'm still interested in the 'real' world.

Cash In Your Old Mobile Phone
People are always changing their mobile phones and the old ones languish in a drawer somewhere. There are websites, such as mazuma who will buy old mobiles (UK only) for cash.

How To Make MoneyThough early days there are a few more ways to make money on my new blog How To Make Money.

Good luck,
Mike.

Concentrate On The Top Four Search Engines To Make Money

When we start blogging I'm sure we have all been enticed by those ads telling us that they can submit our blogs to dozens and dozens of search engines. "Great," we think, "This will bring in the visitors."

I must admit that I followed this route, though didn't part with any money, and had my blog supposedly submitted to lots of search engines. It was a waste of time and effort.

The facts are that 91.7% of searches are done on just four search engines. The rest are insignificant and not worth bothering with - as regards getting visitors to your blog.

If we look at the latest figures, as provided by Neilen/NetRankings, we can see which search engines are used most. Needless to say Google is in top spot.

The figures below show the total percentage searches:

Google 52.7%
Yahoo 20.2%
MSN/Live 13.3%
AOL 5.5%
Ask.com 2.1%
My Web Search 1.0%
My Way 0.5%
Bell South 0.4%
Comcast 0.4%
Dogpile 0.4%
Others 3.6%

It makes sense therefore to concentrate on the top four and especially Google. Of course, even being submitted to a search engine doesn't mean that we will be on the first important pages. This is where keywords and other things come into play.

I've just been looking at stats for my celebrity blog. Since I started the blog, 108 days ago, I've had 31011 search engine referrals. 87% of these were from Google which verifies, as far as I'm concerned, that the majority of the smaller search engines don't boost traffic by any significant amount.

As with any sales force devote time to the strengths and not the weaker players.

Good luck,
Mike.

The Drama Of Blog Gossip

I know from my celebrity blog how gossip spreads, before you know where you are what you have written has been picked up by others. It's like a virus that can be used for good or the not so good. It can provide information, half truths, details of events and can also cause all sorts of troubles and rivalries.

Blog gossip can influence how others feel and think. A new American teen television drama, Gossip Girl, is based on this idea and premieres today (September 19, 2007).

The series, created by Josh Schwartz, creator of The O.C. and Stephanie Savage, is based on a group of privileged teens on Manhattan's Upper East Side.

Gossip Girl publishes a blog from where this elite group learn all about the important news in their lives. The thing is though, no one knows the real identity of the blogger but everyone, nevertheless, comes to rely on her website and also her text messages for the latest scoop.

As in life other outsiders, with perhaps not the status financially or socially as the main group, get drawn into their lives. Gossip Girl, therefore, wields power, and can stir up events and fire up rivalries.

For more information on this new drama have a look at the Gossip Girl on The CW website where you will find videos, previews, photos, games, message boards and all sorts of other stuff.

How To Make Money With Sponsored Posts

You know, it's quite easy to make money if you choose the sponsored post route.

It takes about three months to set up and have running properly but then it's plain sailing. The format is simple.

Start a blog on any inoffensive subject, preferably something covering a wide spectrum. If it's too narrow a niche the sponsored blogs that you can write will be limited. If you did a blog, say on reviews of all sorts, then there would be a massive range of sponsored posts that could be used for the blog.

Of course, it's better still if you can create several blogs.

The blogs have to be updated with posts at least three times a week for the initial three months. The idea isn't to make money out of them during this build up period but you might as well run AdSense Ads or something similar.

You then follow the usual way of obtaining regular visitors and getting a few inward links, not forgetting Blog Directories which have a high PageRank.

What you are aiming for, within the three months, is to:

(a) obtain as high a PageRank as possible
(b) to get a respectable Alexa score. This can often be inflated by such things as hit exchanges - though if you use these you mustn't run AdSense ads, this is against their rules.

After three months join PayPerPost and all of the other similar schemes. Providing you have no adult material or anything offensive you should be easily approved.

Then ... take up as many sponsored posts as you possibly can - subject to individual rules. Most sponsored posts have to be sandwiched between two normal posts ... and make money!

Always read the offer instructions carefully so that your posts are approved.

If you have four or five decent blogs accepted there would be a lot of money to be made.

Q.E.D.

make money with sponsored postsWith a website like PayPerPost, if you have your own domain name so much the better. There will be more offers available. For some reason some 'advertisers' don't favour the likes of blogspot addresses. But this is easy enough to do and only costs about £5 or $10 to set up.

For ages I ignored sponsored posts, just didn't like the idea, but as you will have seen yesterday I've made over $100 from them in the last seven days without any sweat.

What I've just written is about making money and not about enjoying blogging. It's purely using blogs as a way to make money and not as a way of life or influencing the world to your way of thinking. It depends on why you want to blog.

Yesterday I looked at another website offering sponsored posts - Bloggerwave. I filled in the application and am awaiting acceptance. I'll give further info when I've seen how it all works.

With PayPerPost they are offering new members $20 for their first post. Or alternatively, by using the button on the right, newbies can get $7.50 for reviewing this post! Blogs have to be over three months old.

Sponsored posts are a simple way to make money - if that's what you are looking for.

Good luck,
Mike.

How To Make Money - But I've Spent Some As Well

I've done something I said I wouldn't do.

My mission was to try and make money with free blogs and without any capital expenditure.

Well I've spent some money - £4.98 to be precise! So I'll have to subtract that amount from the next Money Making Weekly Report.

I've started a new blog How To Make Money and I thought I'd try a .com address for it. This is where the money went.

I shan't be buying new URL's for this blog, or my celebrity blog, and will stick to my original 'rules' with them.

It will be interesting to see if a .com does carry any more weight than a blogspot.com. I guess it will with sponsored posts, at least with PayPerPost. They have lots of offers where blogspot.com isn't acceptable.

While on the subject of PPP I wrote a post on this a couple of days ago and it was interesting that some of the comments left, from bloggers I respect, weren't exactly in agreement with me. They had differing opinions about PayPerPost.

I think it's great when people have strong opinions. All I'll do in reply is to show you my PayPal receipts over the last seven days from PayPerPost ...

Received from PayPerPost in last 7 days
As you will see (though you may have to click to enlarge the chart) PPP have paid me $116.31 in the last seven days (the £70 is where I withdrew some money from PayPal).

Anyway, back to the new blog. It's still very much a work in progress and like most new blogs will take a few months to get established.

If anyone has any money making tips or ideas I'll be happy to publish them with a link to your blog. Mustn't conflict with anything I promote and no dodgy pay per click things '... send me $49 and I'll tell you how to make ...' Use the contact link in the side column for any submissions.

All of the posts will have labels and these will be shown in the right hand column. Posts will, therefore, be available for as long as the blog is published.

Good luck,
Mike

Money Making Weekly Report - Week 49

I'm now at week 49 of my Money Making Mission. The aim being to try and make money using only free blogs and without any capital outlay.

Working on the theory that ultimately more hits equals more money I have been concentrating on my main celebrity blog. The effort paid off regarding the number of visits. This was mainly because of my posts on Sarah Larson, two of which were 'exclusive' to the blog - at least at the time they were published. As can be seen from the chart on Thursday I had over 3000 unique visitors.

I must be honest though and say that this didn't really earn me the extra money I had hoped for. Such is life!

Below are programs I am currently promoting - in alphabetical order, with a few comments.

AdSense $612.63
A better week than I've had recently thanks to those extra celebrity hits, and also throught the $600 barrier

Amazon UK £4.55 ($9.10)
As I wrote recently about how I am trying Amazon Context Links on my celeb blogs as a trial. So has it worked? Well partly. I'm now getting about 50 clicks a day as opposed to virtually none. However, this only related to one order, which made 21p (42c)!

The problem with Amazon is that I am with the UK website and a lot of visitors are from the USA and other countries. This means that it's doubtful if they would place an order on the UK website. Perhaps this means I have to join the USA Amazon as well - but that could also cause difficulties. Something to think about. Will see what happens after a few weeks.

AuctionAds $29.73
I'm afraid I don't agree with the stats they are producing so at the moment so not too happy with Auction Ads.

Convergence Inc $156.60 (over 18's only)
Adult only products. They provide a free website - providing you can find a way to promote it. Not suitable, for example, on this blog.

DIY Dating £72.99 ($145.25)
DIY also offer a free dating website with choice of designs and content plus use of their massive database. Has possibilities.

FriendFinderGroup $713.46
I thought I might have done better with them over the last 10 days than I have, but still my top money maker at the moment. Over 20 websites to promote ranging from Christian and Jewish friendship to Adults and Bondage! Caters for most interests.

Helium $13.61
I keep saying I like this site but you have to be prepared to write quite a few articles to earn anything worthwhile.

myLot $59.85
Haven't been on their website other than to see I made 17c last week.

Write sponsored posts on your blogPayPerPost $265.83
I did a (sponsored) post on PayPerPost yesterday. PPP is working for me okay at the present time. I've over $90 of posts waiting to be approved - this now seems to take about 9-12 days on average.

Sexy Ads $322.73 (over 18's only)
A well run, efficient affiliate program - if suitable for your blog!

You Gov £51.50 ($103.00)
Genuine survey company - want more panel members in UK, USA and the Middle East.

Miscellaneous $530.68
From such things as links, sponsored blogs, adverts etc.

Total $3459.61

I've also made money from Commission Junction, Cashlinkr, Daytipper, but no longer promote these.

Thanks for the visit!

Good luck,
Mike.

Over $345 Earned With PayPerPost

Sponsored posts - bloggers have varying opinions but I must say I'm getting on just fine with PayPerPost. And I'm not just saying this because they are sponsoring this particular post - honest!

Okay, so what do I like about PPP? I could give a one word answer - money - but I think I'd better elaborate a bit more than this.

This is my 23rd sponsored post for PPP and my earnings, by the time they have all been paid out, will be over $345 - which is a worthwhile addition to my money making mission. Hopefully there will be much more to follow.

I haven't received all of the money as yet. Payment is made 30 days following posts being first published. So far I've had over $130 paid to me via PayPal and the good news is that all of the payments were made on time, without any problems or hassle.

I wrote ages ago that I had some reservations about sponsored posts. Would they have an effect on visitor numbers, would the number of subscribers drop and so on because I was publishing such posts? The answer is that it hasn't made a jot of difference.

From my experience sponsored content with PayPerPost makes me money, helps the advertisers concerned and doesn't harm my blog. Can't be bad!

Distracted By The WayBackMachine

Ah, you are distracted! Here's an interesting tool, it's called the WayBackMachine.

It's a way to browse a selection of archived web pages going back to 1996.

Want to know, for example, how one of my favourite blog's, Blog About Your Blog, used to look. Then click here. Compare this to how their blog looks today. They've come a long way.

Many blogs and websites have changed over the years. Look at Google in 1998 or Wikipedia in 2001.

The WayBackMachine doesn't seem to work for all blogs and websites, unfortunately. It doesn't work for this one, which was really why I first tried it out.

I'm sure there are lots of uses for comparing different dates, perhaps to try and see why PageRank has altered for instance. If you can't find a money making use for the tool it's still a fun way to pass half an hour - not that there aren't lots of other ways to get distracted from what we are supposed to be doing.

"I must concentrate on making money."

Stay focused!
Mike.

Help And Advice On Debt Related Problems

For many years I was involved in the finance world and saw first hand the problems many people face when they get into debt.

People in such a situation react in different ways, from completely ignoring what has happened to showing aggression towards their creditors. Neither of course does much good.

The fact is we all have to face up to our responsibilities. The best way to do this, when debt is knocking at your door, is to get some sound advice on what you should do. Debts won't suddenly go away.

One place with lots of advice, on debt related subjects, is myvesta uk. They describe themselves as The Financial Crisis Centre and that's what they are. There is a load of free information on their website.

myvesta uk are specialists in fighting for the rights of UK consumers. They can tell you, for example, all about IVA's, which are Individual Voluntary Arrangements.

I won't go into full details about IVA's, I'll leave that to the myvesta experts, but briefly they are a way of making a formal agreement between you and your creditors to make reduced payments on what you owe.

If you think that a Myvesta UK Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA) could help you, or if you want more information about any sort of debt problem, have a look at their website.

They also have real people you can chat with anonymously about debt related issues, on a freephone number - the details are on their site.

I must also mention that myvesta uk are a not-for-profit UK social enterprise.

If you are at all worried about debt get some proper advice.

The Anita Roddick & Body Shop Story - Part 2

continued from Part 1

Anita Roddick Died September 10, 2007

When the first Body Shop finally opened the only real guideline was that the business needed to take £300 ($600) a week to survive. The first day's trading on the 23rd of March, 1976 took £130 ($260).

Some of the following weeks' figures fell short of the required £300 so Sunday trading was introduced. Anita Roddick also went out in the evenings to talk to institutions, schools and so on with the idea of hopefully selling a few more products.

Shortly after opening, the Body Shop received a letter from a solicitor threatening to sue unless the name of the business was changed. There were apparently two funeral parlours in Kensington Gardens who seemed to think that their business would be affected if there was something called a 'Body Shop' nearby.

It occurred to Anita that there could be some publicity mileage in this so she anonymously phoned the local newspaper. She told them about a 'Mafia of undertakers who were ganging up on a defenceless woman who was trying to run a business while her husband was planning to go off and ride a horse across South America.' The newspaper took the bait and splashed the story over their two middle pages. There was another lesson here: there was no need to pay for advertising.

The first shop traded quite well and a Saturday helper was taken on called Aidre. As business seemed reasonable Anita got the urge to open a second shop but she couldn't get a second loan. She needed a further £4000 ($6000).

Aidre's boyfriend, Ian McGlinn, who was a garage proprietor had some spare cash and said he would lend the money. In return he wanted a half share in the business. The deal went ahead.

Amazingly Ian McGlinn still had a half share when the Body Shop became a public company. His stake was then worth £4 million ($8 million)! All from a £4000 loan. Today the half share could be worth hundreds of millions. Anita has written that she doesn't resent this fact, "We don't need the money, so why should we worry about it or begrudge Ian his good luck? Our pleasure and fulfilment are obtained from running the business, not from the money it makes."

In 1977 the Body Shop received a phone call from a young herbalist, Mark Constantine, who was trying to market his herbal shampoos without much success. His call was from a public phone box and he had to keep feeding in coins as he spoke.

Anita and Mark met and she has said that, "The Henna Cream Shampoo looked and smelled like horse s**t."

The products must still have impressed because an order was placed for £1000. At the time Mark was living on £30 per week and was making up the products in his kitchen. Fortunately for both of them the products sold well and within one month a larger order was placed. Mark's company has grown alongside the Body Shop and remains as one of their major suppliers.

At this time Anita's husband returned from his journey. He had travelled some 2000 miles until one of his horses slipped and fell down a precipice and was killed. He didn't then have the heart to carry on.

Gordon Roddick became involved in the business. They wanted to expand further but had no spare money and the banks were not interested in lending to them.

They were approached by Chris Green, Max Bygraves daughter, who said whe was interested in opening her own Body Shop in Hove. This was agreed on the understanding that it would still be called the Body Shop and Anita and Gordon would supply all of the products.

Though there was no formal contract or fees this was the first Body Shop franchise. At the time Gordon called it 'Self Financing' but could see this was the way to forward so they could expand.

From then on the first batch of franchises began operating and Anita and Gordon accumulated sufficient funds to open a further shop for themselves in Reading.

For the next couple of years the Body Shop spread with outlets all over the place including Sweden and Athens in 1979 and Canada a little later.

Once the Body Shop opened in London's Covent Garden the media started to take notice and Cosmopolitan magazine published a feature. From then on Anita described herself as becoming 'Ms. MegaMouth' and enjoyed promoting the business via chat shows on television, radio and the such like - all free advertising.

As the numbers of shops increased so did the demand for the products. Suppliers looked after them well as they made a principle to pay their bills on time - something that many large businesses tried to avoid.

In 1982 the Body Shop was expanding at the rate of two new shops a month including outlets in Iceland, Denmark, Finland, Holland and Eire. At this time they began to charge a premium of £3000 for a franchise and maintained much stricter controls so that they could ensure a distinctive corporate identity.

In April 1984 the Body Shop first became a public company with the shares floated at 95p each. The price soon went up to £1.56 and the company was all of a sudden worth £8 million. And, as I said at the beginning of part 1 of this article, the Body Shop was sold last year to L'Oreal in a deal worth £652 million (about $1300 million).

From Anita Roddick's need to survive and feed her kids the Roddicks became exceedingly rich.

The Anita Roddick & Body Shop Story - Part 1

Anita RoddickI thought that today I'd write about Anita Roddick the British entrepreneur, of Body Shop fame, who died last night.

Though not about blogging it's interesting to look at the beginnings of successful businesses. Last year, for example, Body Shop was sold to L'Oreal for £652 million (about $1300 million) but when Anita started out things were very different.

Anita Roddick's Story

When Anita Roddick set up her first shop in Brighton in 1976 she didn't want to change the world and she didn't even envisage herself as the entrepreneur she was to become. She simply wanted sufficient money to survive and to be able to feed her children.

Her husband had decided to take a couple of years off to fulfill a childhood dream. He wanted to ride a horse from Buenos Aries to New York, a distance of 5,300 miles. Goodness knows what a lot of wives would have said, but Anita accepted this and went about deciding on how she was going to support her family.

She hit upon the idea of starting a shop selling a small range of cosmetics, made from natural ingredients, in five different sizes and sold in the cheapest possible containers. She chose this idea because it was an irritation to her personally that she was unable to purchase small sizes of everyday cosmetics.

Anita was also aware that much of the money she was paying for products was being spent for fancy packaging, that she didn't want or need. Her personal grievances led her to a multi million company.

She recognised that if these things annoyed her then they must also annoy other women, and perhaps men as well.

Anita Roddick found her 'need' which she decided to fill. She didn't intentionally set out to buck the trend, she just recognised something that she thought people would want.

The idea of using natural ingredients developed from things that she had observed when traveling quite extensively prior to her marriage. When, for example, in Tahiti she noticed how the skin of even the elderly women remained soft, smooth and elastic despite constant exposure to the sun.

She found that the women used cocoa butter to rub into their skin. This had been practised for generations. The butter was an excellent skin conditioner and even prevented stretch marks during pregnancy.

Anita's travels also took her to Israel, Paris, Greece, Switzerland (where she worked for the U.N), Australia (where she sold weather boarding) and on to Madagascar, Mauritius and South Africa. As she travelled she observed things, such as the Tahitian cocoa butter, with no idea that they would prove invaluable to her in later life as a business woman.

The first Body Shop was started with the help of a £4,000 ($8,000) bank loan, though her first application for the money was actually turned down. She went to see the bank manager dressed in jeans and a T-shirt and was accompanied by her two small children. Despite her obvious enthusiasm the loan was declined.

This taught her a lesson that sometimes you have to conform. She got a friend to draw up a business plan, bought a business suit and tried again. She saw the same bank manager but this time got the money she needed. With her second application she went about it properly. Perhaps if she hadn't of been willing to change, in this instance, there may never have been the Body Shop empire of today.

Body ShopWith the £4000 in her possession a shop was found in Kensington Gardens, Brighton. She painted the front and inside a dark green. This was no flash of inspiration but was chosen because it seemed the only colour that would cover the damp patches.

The inside walls were covered with larchwood fencing and so the Body Shop basic image was born - out of necessity rather than some great preconceived plan. She did, however, lash out on having a logo designed, which cost her £25 ($50).

Everything for the first shop was done on a shoestring. Initially the ingredients were made up by herself. This caused a few problems so a flit through Yellow Pages found a herbalist who agreed to make up small quantities of the 25 products. The first order was for £700 ($1400) and was paid for in advance, out of the bank loan.

The cheapest containers to be found were small plastic bottles used by hospitals to collect urine samples! Handwritten labels were stuck onto the bottles and these were placed next to postcards giving descriptions and ingredients of the products.

As Anita couldn't afford sufficient bottles she decided to offer to refill used bottles or fill customers own containers. Recycling and reusing materials was born out of economical necessity more than a concern for the environment.

Criminal Lawyers Discuss Celebrity Prosecutions

Here's a fascinating blog, especially if you are interested in reading about celebrity prosecutions and other legal matters.

The blog author, lawyer Dmitry Gorin, is a Professor at UCLA and Pepperdine Law School, and he provides frequent commentary on Court TV.

Recent posts include comment on the Phil Spector murder case. The question discussed is to whether the prosecution can win. There are also posts about the cases of Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton.

Another non celebrity post that caught my eye has the main title of What rights do you have as a passenger in a vehicle after a traffic stop?. This covers questions as to whether the police have the right to search you or order you to provide identification when in such a situation.

Fascinating stuff!

The blog is from the criminal lawyers Kestenbaum, Eisner & Gorin and you'll find it on the following link: Los Angeles Criminal Lawyers Blog California Criminal Defense Law Forum.

How To Disguise Your Blog URL

Do you want to disguise your blog address in adverts and the like? Or for any other reason? Well you can do this with the website My Dot TK.

You can pick out a new URL for use in adverts, or anywhere else, and this will re-direct traffic to your blog or website.

For example, as a test, I picked out http://www.moneymaking4free.tk/ for use with this blog. If you click on this it will take you to the normal mikesmoneymakingmission.blogspot.com - in other words back to this page.

With each URL selected you can also have up to five email adresses - which again are redirected to your own email address.

This is all for free - though there are payment options if any 'extras' are required. You can have as many URL's as you want.

Are there any snags?
A few but it is for free remember.

(1) When re-directed there will be a banner ad at the top of the page.
(2) To keep things current free domains expire after 90 days if less than twenty-five (25) users have been to the website.
(3) The 'tk' ending to the address might have people saying 'who?' or 'what?'

Where is tk/TK?
It's all set up in the Tokelau islands in the Pacific Ocean, about 300 miles north of Samoa. A group of Dutch and American entrepreneurs have set up Dot TK and the advertising will help the coral islands' income. They only have a combined population of around 1,500. Technically the islands are British and were claimed as such back in 1765.

Positives?
There could be some interesting names still available and the banner ad shouldn't detract from your blog or website when re-directed. This doesn't in any way effect using your normal URL.

If you let your mind free there could be several uses for such a service.

Good luck,
Mike.

Head For An Exotic Beach Holiday

Here in the UK it has been a washout of a summer so many of us feel we have missed out on our beach holidays. It's tempting, therefore, to head for the sunshine.

I've been looking at the Dial A Flight website and especially some of the exotic beach holidays on offer. To me exotic means places like Zanzibar, Tahiti, Fiji, the Cook Islands and so on.

But whether you want Beach Holidays, Tropical Holidays or Beach Resort Holidays they are all on the Dial A Flight site plus, of course, there are Cheap Flights. There are lots of Holiday Offers.

Wherever you choose it's bound to be better weatherwise than Bognor, Brighton or Blackpool!

This is a sponsored post.

Below are programs I am currently promoting - in alphabetical order, with a few comments.

AdSense $579.68
I received $253.09, paid direct to my bank account, from AdSense this week. It all works well but, as before, I'm not always happy with some of the ads that end up on my celeb blog.

Amazon UK £4.34 ($8.64)
As I wrote on Tuesday I am trying Amazon Context Links on one of my celeb blogs as a trial. It's early days and I'm getting more clicks but unfortunately not orders.

AuctionAds $29.73
I'm a bit confused by what I have earned. Hopefully will sort itself out for next week. Note: If you join AuctionAds now they will credit your account with $25!! See my post Free $25 From AuctionAds for more info.

Convergence Inc $156.60 (over 18's only)
Adult only products. They provide a free website - providing you can find a way to promote it. Not suitable, for example, on this blog.

DIY Dating £72.99 ($145.25)
DIY also offer a free dating website with choice of designs and content plus use of their massive database. Has possibilities.

Had a cheque form them this week. Earnings now through the $700 barrier. Over 20 websites to promote ranging from Christian and Jewish friendship to Adults and Bondage! Caters for most interests.

I keep saying I like this site but you have to be prepared to write quite a few articles to earn anything worthwhile.

myLot $59.68
Haven't been on their website. Out of interest: I have signed up 113 new members to MyLot and this brings me in ... roll of drums ... 15 cents on average per week!

Write sponsored posts on your blogPayPerPost $230.83
Slowed for me as I'm back to the old story of not being able to find any suitable opportunities to write about over the last week. Most that I qualify for are off niche and only worth $5. I won't write a sponsored post for such an amount. I looked quickly this morning and I think there are now a few higher payment posts on offer.

Sexy Ads $322.73 (over 18's only)
A well run, efficient affiliate program - if suitable for your blog!

You Gov £51.00 ($102.00)
Genuine survey company - want more panel members in UK, USA and the Middle East.

Miscellaneous $500.68
From such things as links, sponsored blogs, adverts etc.

Total $3350.21

I've also made money from Commission Junction, Cashlinkr, Daytipper, but no longer promote these.

That's another week ticked off. Thanks for reading this post.

Good luck,
Mike.
