Money Making Weekly Report - Week 38

I'm now at week 38 of my Money Making Mission. The aim being to try and earn money, using only free blogs and without any capital outlay.

It's so easy to get distracted from the main objective of a money making blog - which is to make money! There's always a good excuse, of course. In my case I tell myself it's because of limited time for blogging and the fact that I have been concentrating on building my new blog Celebrity Insider - Photos & News. They are both true but somehow it's necessary to keep everything going and not lose track of why I'm actually blogging.

Anyway, here are some of the things I'm involved with.

AdSense $308.11
I'm sure we all know about AdSense. It's improved for me since I started the new blog - but I'd still like a lot more. Must think about the ads positioning, the headline colours etc. and see what I can do to improve.

Amazon UK £3.80 ($7.22)
My Amazon aStore Blogging Good Blogs doesn't bring in much - perhaps that's because I don't promote it or Amazon books and products properly!

AuctionAds Nil.
As I said last week I joined this on June 11th but no income as yet - that's despite 31,002 page impressions giving 334 clicks. I'll continue for a full month but, if no cash forthcoming, the space will have to be put to better use. The ads are in the right hand column, towards the bottom of the page.

Cashlinkr $4.50
Nothing to add from what I said last week.

Convergence Inc $142.60 (over 18's only)
There are only a few places I can promote this, because of it's adult nature (adult products). They are efficient, however, pay on time and give affiliates a free website. If you can market the products there is enormous potential.

Daytipper $3.00
Same thoughts as last week. I don't see them as a realistic money maker. Nothing wrong with the website though.

DIY Dating £53.07 ($95.52)
I did a recent post on DIY Dating, How To Make Money Dating. Briefly: They provide a free website and you choose format and sector of people you wish to include on your site from their database. Payout exactly as they say. Worldwide opportunity.

FriendFinderGroup $593.15
This one works! Affiliates can promote over twenty websites with one sign up. There is also a choice of ways to earn - either per click, by order or by percentage. They have always paid me regularly and as expected. I did a report on this program in January Money Making Test: FriendFinder Group.

Helium $11.00
Another few more cents this week. As I said last week I like this website even though I've never done much with it. If you like writing lots of articles / reports I'm sure it could prove profitable.

myLot $58.15
Haven't had time to go on the site over the past week but made a few dollars from having introduced new members.

PayPerPost $40.02
They pay out fine but I can't find any suitable offers to write about for this blog. With the right subject matter and niche some bloggers have made thousands of dollars

Sexy Ads $287.76 (over 18's only)
Another excellent friends and contact program for affiliates. Lots of sites to promote and good promotional materials. I only bother to check my stats on a monthly basis.

You Gov £39.00 ($74.10)
A few more pounds this week. This is a genuine survey and polls company. They want more members from UK, USA and Middle East. UK residents get £1 for joining. For more info this post.

I've also made money from Commission Junction and Adbrite but no longer promote these.

Additional blog income of $240.16 made from advertising revenue.

No, I'm pleased to say, I'm well through the $2000 barrier.

Moving on to Search Engine Referrals.
833 referrals this week from the various search engines to this blog. This takes the total received from this source to 12,014.

Celebrity Insider - Photos & NewsAs for my new blog, Celebrity Insider - Photos & News, I had 1403 search engine referrals for the last seven days and 5079 hits (average of 725 per day). This is really where my efforts have been concentrated over the week in my alloted blogging time.

My Mike's Top Ten Referrals From Blogs is in the side column this week. I hope to do a June list during next week and will publish this when completed.

Thanks for reading this post.

Good luck,
Mike.

Thank You Links

My thank you links for this week.

The links are because they left me comments - blogs taken at random from last seven days, but my thanks to everyone who contributed and visited Mikes Money Making Mission.

What to do when you've got no connection
I've linked this to a particular post. This New Zealand blogger normally writes about money making on this blog - recent posts on VuMe and CREAMAid but, as the title suggests, his Internet connection was down. He's a talented photographer so he got clicking and even saw pictures in his floor! The photo on the right is Mary! There are eleven interesting photos on this post plus a video. Something different. He also has several other blogs including one on the paranormal. Some interesting stuff here.

Jimmy Moore's Livin' La Vida Low-Carb™ Blog
Jimmy, from South Carolina, writes, "In just one year I lost 180 pounds and I have kept that weight off by making low-carb my permanent lifestyle change." It seems he once weighed in at 410 pounds. If you have some surplus inches join him on his healthy journey - his method looks like it works.

Andrewrevenue ROBOT
Andrew (Andy) Alexander is from 'beautiful' Orlando, Florida where he works from his home office. He says that he's, "... pretty much always online researching ventures to make money from or to invest in." His blog has mixed posts ranging from money making to music. A nicely designed blog on blogger.

Money Money Money
I picked this comment because this 'British female' gave me some useful advice in a comment. I wrote a post about having my posts pinched by other blogs. I also said in a comment that many of them are 'automated blogs using feeds' which steal other bloggers content.

Money Money Money came up, in part, with the answer to this: 'The only way to stop your feed getting used like this is to change your feed to "short" within your blogger template. That way, if the feed is used, only the first paragraph is shown and they have to click through to your blog to read the rest.' Don't know why I hadn't thought of this!

Good luck,
Mike.

Stop Thief! Someone's Stolen My Money Making Post

I wanted to make a few comments today about copyright and my feelings when other bloggers publish, in full, my posts without having the decency to ask first. I found six instances of this yesterday copied from this and my celebrity blog.

Firstly, articles etc. posted on the web do have copyright protection, even if they do not display the copyright notice. There are exceptions to this, but generally this is the rule.

Plagiarism is paramount to stealing. It is IP Theft i.e. Intellectual Property Theft. I believe that permission should be requested if we want to publish something in full that another person has written. Nothing should be copied in it's entirety without approval.

There is, however, something known as fair use which I am sure we are all happy with. This is whereby other bloggers can use excerpts from a post or article, when it is relative to what they are writing about. Again, it must be stressed, this does not extend to using the whole of a post or article.

When using excerpts bloggers should give credit, where credit is due, and a link should be made to the permalink of the post and not to the blogs's main page.

It's really just a matter of etiquette and good manners.

My Brazilian friend Julio wrote a useful article on this subject, a while back, titled What to do when someone steals your content.

If any bloggers need content, and can't be bothered to write it themselves, there is plenty to be had on such websites as Go Articles and Ezine Articles - but follow the rules.

Think I must have got out of the wrong side of the bed this morning!

Good luck,
Mike.

Volcanic Money Making Trends

volcanoI have a bit of a 'thing' at the moment about search trends on the Internet. As I see it, it stands to reason that if you can associate a post, with something that is being searched for in great numbers, this could send hits to your blog.

I don't mean in a spamming way, but if we keep an eye on trends there could well be something that is relative to the subject matter of our blogs.

Probably one of the best places to view these trends is on the aptly named Google Trends. This is the websites own description of what is on offer:

'With Hot Trends, you can see a snapshot of what's on the public's collective mind by viewing the fastest-rising searches for different points of time. You can see a list of today’s top 100 fastest-rising search queries in the U.S.'

Hot trends are updated hourly, so you can always have an up to date picture of the top Google searches. You may, however, have noticed one drawback from the above description. They are USA trends only at the moment, though this will change in the future. I feel that, as the USA is the major player on the Internet, the information is still useful for all countries.

When you go to the site you can get a list of the top 100 trends. If you click on one of these a graph will come up, as below, plus lots of other info on the subject.

The above screen shot is for yesterday's number three trend - Ye Li. I'd never heard of her but she turns out to be a Chinese basketball player who is going to get married.

Now if you had a sports or basketball blog, yesterday, it may well have been a good idea to have given Ye Li a mention. As you will see from the graph above, in a search sense, she was classed as 'Volcanic' - the top rating possible. As you work down the list of 100 keywords other classifications include On Fire, Spicy, Medium and Mild.

Looking at today's trends (at 3.30 p.m. UK time) there is nothing shown as Volcanic. The highest is a Medium. This could change rapidly at any moment, depending on what happens in the world or USA.

All I would suggest is that you watch any trends relative to your niche and then capitalise on them when you can.

I'm aware that some bloggers won't like this idea but I believe you have to give people what they want - not what you think they should want or what you want them to want.

What a lot of wants!

Get in on the volcanic action, just as the lava starts to flow.

Good luck,
Mike.

Misspellings Like Britney Make Money

Misspellings of Britney Spears Sometimes it helps to forget the spellchecker when writing money making posts.

Perhaps that's an exaggeration, but a few wrong spellings of keywords can bring in extra referrals from search engines.

As an example, on my celebrity blog I made a mistake with spelling the surname 'Shabnam'. I included it a couple of times correctly but, for some reason, I also spelt it wrongly as 'Shabnab'.

When I looked at my stats I found I had 228 search engine referrals from the keyword 'Shabnam' but also another 114 hits from the wrongly spelled keyword 'Shabnab'.

In other words I had an extra one hundred plus visits to the blog because of my misspelling.

I've been aware of this way of getting extra referrals for a while and sometimes 'accidentally' do variations of certain words.

Britney SpearsIt's all about thinking of alternative spellings that searchers might use. If writing about Britney Spears, for instance, the list on the left shows wrong spellings used on Google.

It's obviously something not to be overdone. You don't want visitors noticing lots of errors, and thinking you are a bit of a dunce, but discreet misspellings may just bring a few additional blog visitors.

And what do additional visitors bring? Additional money making potential! Nice theory anyway.

Good luck,
Mike.

Trendy Referrals From IceRocket

Time permiting, I'm always looking at ways to get referrals to my blogs. One I've had a fair amount of success with, for my Celeb blog, is IceRocket. I think it's one that is worth a ping after each post. If you ping with something like pingoat IceRocket may well be included. So far I've had about 140 referrals.

So what does IceRocket offer:

Firstly it's another place where you can search blogs, the web, images etc. Pretty much as standard but, as I've said, I have been getting referrals now from them. They appear to use 'tags' as well as 'keywords' when searching.

I've mentioned before about writing posts about subjects that are 'hot' and also especially 'things' on the way up. IceRocket have a Blog Trends tool whereby you can search for a particular subject. You end up with a chart like this (It's one I did on a celebrity over a three month period).

trends As you can see this person has been on a massive high within blogs, which is now slowing - but what if you could have 'caught' them on the way up? This is actually how I got 2357 hits in the last two days on my new celebrity blog. It wasn't anything very clever - it was simply being aware of trends.

IceRocket also offers a free invisable tracker with quite a lot of info., there is a demo on their site. They also have a free email address plus a paid service.

So that, in brief, is IceRocket.

Good luck,
Mike.

Money Making Weekly Report - Week 37

I'm now at week 37 of my Money Making Mission. The aim being to try and earn money, using only free blogs and without any capital outlay.

These are programs I am currently promoting, together with how much I have made from them.

AdSense $285.22
A better than usual week mainly due to the additional number of visitors to my new blog, Celebrity Insider - Photos & News

Amazon UK £3.80 ($7.22)
Going great guns, another 36p (68c) this week! See my Amazon aStore Blogging Good Blogs.

AuctionAds Nil.
I joined AuctionAds on the 11th of June. No sign of any cash as yet. They show my stats as being 15,593 page impressions giving 186 clicks for the period since I joined. Still deciding if this is worth doing. You'll see their ads in this blog's side column.

Cashlinkr $4.50
As far as I'm concerned they didn't do as they said they would. So can't really recommend them.
Convergence Inc $142.60 (over 18's only)
Adult only products but when customers do buy they place decent sized orders. This won't appeal to lots of bloggers. I figured, however, that these sort of products are probably sold mostly over the Internet nowadays - because of the embarrassment factor. Convergence will set you up with your own website for free and they have always paid me out on time.

Daytipper $3.00
Say they pay $3 for tips but it's a heck of a wait to get the cash and I don't see them as a realistic money maker.

FriendFinderGroup $581.65
I like this! It's my biggest money maker from an affiliate program to date. They have lots of friends and contact sites to promote - with just one sign-up. Most interests within this market are covered from Church and Jewish websites to adult and webcams. They have always paid me regularly and as expected. I did a report on this program in January Money Making Test: FriendFinder Group.

Helium $10.74
A few more cents this week. As I said last week I like this website even though I've never done much with it.

myLot $57.76
In the past I have used this site for getting referrals to this blog. I haven't been to their site over the last week, mainly because it is time consuming to make decent money. One advantage is that you can sign up referrals to help with the income - this is why my total increased a little this week.

PayPerPost $40.02
They pay out okay but I can't find very many offers suitable for this blog. If you are not a member you can earn $7.50 for writing a review about one of my posts. Click the button on the right for info and/or see my post Build Blog Traffic By Other Bloggers Reviewing Your Posts.

Sexy Ads $287.76 (over 18's only)
Another excellent friends and contact program for affiliates. Lots of sites to promote and good promotional materials. I only bother to check my stats on a monthly basis.

You Gov £36.00 ($68.40)
This is a genuine survey and polls company. They want more members from UK, USA and Middle East. UK residents get £1 for joining. For more info this post.

I've also made money from Commission Junction and Adbrite but no longer promote these.

Additional blog income of $230.16 made from advertising revenue.

All in all income from my blogs amounts to around $2000.

If you need other ideas to make money see my (very long) post Lots Of Ways On How To Make Money. There are over 30 money making ideas - not all of them are Internet based.

Moving on to Search Engine Referrals.
There have been 992 referrals this week from the various search engines to this blog. This takes the total received from this source to 11,181.

Celebrity Insider - Photos & NewsAs regular readers will know I started a new blog, Celebrity Insider - Photos & News, 19 days ago. The number of visits went mad yesterday when I had 1221 hits. To date I've had 6200 uniques and 14231 including reloads. Search engine's have sent 1213 referrals so far.

Though there have been lots of visits to Celebrity Insider I haven't really capitalised on this properly. This now has to be one of my priorities for the coming week.

My Mike's Top Ten Referrals From Blogs is in the side column this week.

Thanks for reading this post.

Good luck,
Mike.

A Few Thank You Links

As I haven't done any Thank You Links for a while so I have picked out a few at random. They are the latest bloggers to have joined my MyBlogLog Community. I'm not saying they are the best blogs about, a couple are quite new, but sometimes it's 'nice' not to always point clicks towards the well known, established blogs (hoping for something in return!)

Earn Money On The Web
That's Kent also known as Tharsos on the right. He says,"For a long time I had an interest in researching different possibilities of earning money on the web. There are a lot of opportunities out there, but there are also many scams. I decided to create this blog to share my knowledge about the subject."

Jesse Blogs It All
JesseTheCat, that's her photo, writes: "Come along on my Internet moneymaking adventure. I will be writing about all the interesting info I come across during my net cruising and shall discuss the best money generating ideas I find."

Innocent Obsession - Making Money Online
All I know about this blogmeister is what he has on his profile: "I am a 20 year old student, looking to make more money online while staying at home and creating more time for my studies and my family."

Extra Income Money Tomorrow
A bit formal, but this is a 'female from Malaysia'. "Hi, me dreamer. A part-time blogger while searching for full-time job has created this blog out of curiosity on how others blogger earn a handsome money from ads."

Now this is the very first member to join my new Celebrity Insider MyBlogLog community.

Disgruntled Workforce
To quote: "The purpose of this website is to provide a forum for individuals to wallow in their employment sorrows." Aims of the site include: "Bitch about your job; Read others bitch about their jobs; Have fun; Waste time."

It would be a nice gesture if you could, perhaps, click on some of the links. Remember what it was like when you started your blog? Thanks!

Good luck,
Mike.

What Does PageRank Mean?

Many bloggers have asked: 'What do the Google PageRank numbers actually mean?'

I came across this article by Donald Nelson, who is a search engine optimization specialist. I think the following explanation from Donald is as good as any as to what PageRank signifies (Mikes Money Making Mission has a PageRank 5). These are his words:

PageRank 0-2 shows that a site does not have many links and needs work. However, and this a big "however," it may not really affect your search engine rankings. I have a client with a page rank of 2 and his site ranks well, even number one, for several search terms in a fairly competitive industrial category. So PageRank is not everything; it may have an impact on your rankings and traffic, but in some cases it may not matter. In any case if you have a PageRank of 0-2, you can work on it through proper link building activity.

PageRank 3 can be OK in some cases but in highly competitive industries you should work to improve it.

PageRank 4 is quite a normal number and indicates that you have enough links in either quantity or quality to make your site competitive.

PageRank 5 indicates that a site has many links or links from authoritative sites, and that Google has good "trust" in the site. It is a respectable and attainable PageRank.

PageRank 6 is very difficult to attain. This rank indicates that the site has many links and links from respected places.

PageRank 7-10 is usually earned by large and established institutions or websites which have tremendous authority, due to the quantity and quality of the incoming links. It is extremely difficult to attain this ranking. You really have to be special to get it.

From the above it can be seen that, though of importance, PageRank isn't quite the God it is sometimes said to be - at least not in all circumstances.

It is of value to money making bloggers, however, because it signifies a certain something to prospective advertisers and is favoured within the world of sponsored posts. The higher the PageRank the more income potential from these two sources. Other websites are also often willing to pay for links to say a PR 5 or 6 site when wanting to rise up the ladder themselves.

Like everything else with blogging we should aim for our own objectives. What others are doing doesn't really matter. Fill the time we have to full advantage and - enjoy!

You can check your PageRank here and the prediction for your next Page Rank here.

Good luck,
Mike.

Don't Put All Your Money Eggs In One Basket

I've been quite pleased over the last few weeks at the number of referrals I have been getting from search engines and Technorati tags. But something has happened that is making me feel that I was, perhaps, too reliant on these two sources.

My Technorati tag referrals have dried up completely and I miss the contribution that they make to the number of visits this blog receives.

For some reason Technorati now 'say' that my blog doesn't exist! Looks like I must have fallen foul of some rule or regulation. I've sent them an email to find out what the problem is but, with the number of blogs they have listed, I'm not sure how long a reply will take. It's been seven days already.

I've always been a great fan of Technorati and hope that I can rectify things but, more importantly, it struck home to me how reliant we can become on some aspects of our blogs.

I'm sure we've all heard stories, or even experienced, the power that the likes of Google, Commission Junction et al possess. They can deactivate accounts, often without warning, leaving the blogger concerned not knowing what he or she has done wrong.

My point, therefore, is that we should look for several sources for our income and our visitor referrals. It's no good being dependant on just one or two things in each case. We have to spread our wings and have several streams of income and several streams of visitors.

Should one of the streams then hit a drought we'll be able to cope and won't desperately be pulling our hair out in frustration at the 'wrong' that has befallen us.

The Googles and the like have immense, almost supreme, power over us small bloggers. Though I don't like to admit this, as it goes against my natural instincts, I guess we have to accept and adapt to this fact at the present time.

Therefore, my suggestion is that we shouldn't put all your eggs in one basket!

Google News
Eric Schmidt says that 'personal search is the next phenomenon' and that services like iGoogle are 'exploding in use'. He says, "We are trying to close the gap between what you want and what you type in." This is being done by keeping tracks of an individual's search history.

On the Data front Google have agreed, at least in Europe, to delete personal data after 18 months. This was following pressure from the EU. Once we thought that Governments could turn into Big Brother, but it could just as likely be private companies.

Google employ something like 2,500 people within Europe, though most of these are in Ireland for taxation reasons.

Youtube, now within the Google stable, are launching nine local language services from Japan to France. They have, however, a few problems in the USA where Viacom has accused them of 'permitting piracy'. By this they mean Youtube is 'allowing' television clips to be shown which contravenes copyright.

Google shares are doing okay though, and are sixfold the price they floated at in August 2004.

That's all for today.

Good luck,
Mike.

The Impossible Pie Recipe For Making Money

With the correct ingredients some impossible things can happen. Take the Impossible Pie, for example - the ingredients are on the right. It was found on an old folded scrap of paper at a flea market.

This is how you create an Impossible Pie.

Place all the ingredients in a blender / mixer at one time and blend until mixed together. Pour this mixture into a buttered 10" pie dish. Bake in an oven at 350 degrees (gas 4) for one hour.

When done the crust will be on the bottom, custard in the middle and coconut on top - exactly where they should be.

And, of course, it's the same when trying to make money with free blogs!

We get what we deserve. Nothing less, nothing more. Whatever ingredients we use we'll end up exactly where we should be. Leave a few bits and pieces out and the Impossible Pie won't work out as we hoped.

With a money making blog we need to mix together three batches of ingredients:

(1) First batch. Regular good content of value with inward links from quality blogs & websites, keywords within the title and post, tags and a subscription service - read more about these ingredients here.

(2) Second batch. Social groups mixed with comments on other bogs, forums, directories, carnivals and baiting. There is more on these ingredients here.

(3) Final batch. We need to season with our favourite ingredients. Choose from: Affiliate Programs, Shops, Advertising, Sponsored Posts, Tips and Own Products. Further details here.

Once we have mixed the three batches individually and then finally together the Impossible happens. We make money with free blogs.

And yes, the Impossible Pie does work out as it should. As will most things in life if we add the proper ingredients.

Good luck,
Mike

Making Money With Cosmic Ordering

Cosmic raysAdvertorial:

I see that Cosmic Ordering is back in the news. This is where you ask the Cosmic for what you want in life, including money, and then ... you receive whatever it is that you have asked for.

Is this 'away with the fairies' or could there actually be an element of truth in the theory?

If you think about it, it's not so far removed from what 'experts' tell us to do to become successful. Their advice is that we must decide what it is that we actually want to achieve and then, most importantly, write this down on paper.

It's been shown that those who write down their objectives, or targets, are more likely to achieve them. In a way this is obvious because if you don't know what you want, you definitely won't get it! But if you crystalise exactly your ambitions somehow things starting working out for you. Your mind gets ticking in the right direction and things start to happen. You notice what you didn't before and it's almost like magic ... a bit like Cosmic Ordering!

Cosmic Ordering arose to the surface again after Brian Belo, a new housemate in the UK Big Brother house, mentioned that this had helped him to win a place in the TV program.

Cosmic Ordering was big a while back when Barbel Mohr published her book, aptly called 'Cosmic Ordering - a guide to realising your dreams'. This sold massively in the UK, following it's success in Germany, when little Noel Edmunds, the TV presenter of Deal Or No Deal, said that this was working for him. Noel says he carries a list of his 'orders' with him wherever he goes. He even cashed in by writing a book on the subject.

There are now dozens of books about Cosmic Ordering.

Does it work?

Barbel Mohr writes, "Be aware of what you wish for, and order, it could come true at once!"

Good luck!
Mike.

Money Making Weekly Report - Week 36

I'm now at week 36 of my Money Making Mission. The aim being to try and earn money, using only free blogs and without any capital outlay.

A change of format this week but, as usual, I'll give the money making aspect first.

These are programs I am currently promoting together with how much I have made from them.

AdSense $265.98
The one that a lot of bloggers use for advertising on their blogs. It's worked okay for me - just don't break any of their terms & conditions!

Amazon UK £3.44 ($6.19)
I don't promote this very much but have an aStore called Blogging Good Blogs full of books on blogging, surprisingly enough! Had an order this week and made 37p (66c) - wow!

AuctionAds Nil.
As you will no doubt have read in my recent post I only joined AuctionAds on Monday of this week. No money as yet, but they show my stats as being 5298 page impressions giving 79 clicks. I'll have to see how this one works out.

FriendFinderGroup $577.02
My biggest money maker to date. They have lots of friends and contact sites to promote (just one sign-up) to cover most interests within this market. Have paid me regularly and as expected. I did a report on this program in January Money Making Test: FriendFinder Group.

Helium $10.48
I like this website but I've never done much with it. It's about getting paid for writing articles. I've only written two and these have made me $10+.

myLot $57.02
I used this site mainly in the past for getting referrals to this blog. Very time consuming to make decent money. You can sign up referrals to help with the income.

PayPerPost $40.02
They pay out okay but I can't find any offers suitable for this blog. My post Build Blog Traffic By Other Bloggers Reviewing Your Posts refers.

Sexy Ads $287.76 (over 18's only)
Another excellent friends and contact program for affiliates. Lots of sites to promote and good promotional materials.

You Gov £33.00 ($60)
This is a genuine survey and polls company. They want more members from UK, USA and Middle East. UK residents get £1 for joining. For more info this post.

I've also made money from Commission Junction and Adbrite but no longer promote these.

Additional blog income of $210.16 made from advertising revenue.

All in all income from my blogs amounts to around $2000.

If you need other ideas to make money see my (very long) post Lots Of Ways On How To Make Money. There are over 30 money making ideas - not all of them are Internet based.

Moving on to Search Engine Referrals.
There have been 745 referrals this week from the various search engines to this blog. This takes the total received from this source to well over 10,000.

Celebrity Insider - Photos & NewsAs regular readers will know I started a new blog, Celebrity Insider - Photos & News 10 days ago. I'm pleased at the way this has progressed. In the 12 days I've had 2866 uniques and 5862 visits including reloads. Better still is the fact that 1213 of the visits have come via search engines. Now all I have to do is make some money from the blog!

My Mike's Top Ten Referrals From Blogs is in the side column this week.

I'll close on that note. It's been a hectic week for me personally, one of those times when there never seems enough hours in a day but such is life!

Good luck,
Mike.

Best Time To Post On Your Blog

I talked yesterday about the best time to post on your blog. Jonathan Carbonel directed me to a well written post aptly titled When is the Best Time and Day to Post on Your Blog? Though there are no definite conclusions reached some interesting points are made with plenty of food for thought.

Rhys of The Gospel According To Rhys writes, in a comment, that he tries to post 'first thing in the morning, as most of my readers are from the UK, so I figured they read it before they get down to work.' He found that by doing this he got '90% of my comments between 8:30 and 9am.'

Is that the current office procedure - blogs and emails before any proper work?

I haven't reached any definite conclusions on this subject, still experimenting.

My thinking is that if only one post a day is published the timing doesn't really matter. The post will cover all time frames and gives everyone worldwide a chance to read the words of wisdom. Providing the post are published at the same time every day.

Timing depends, in part, as to whether we are hoping to get a few tag referrals. If this is the case perhaps posting when the highest number of people normally visit the blog is the optimum time.

Unless you have several thousand visitors it's probably not too important as to when postings are made.

It is, after all, content that matters, and good keywords, so that the subject matter will get picked up by the search engines.

Sometimes it's easy to take blogging much too seriously.

Tomorrow it's my Money Making Weekly Report.

Good luck,
Mike.

Bianca GascoigneCelebrity watch: yesterday's stories on Celebrity Insider included Lily Allen's words about her alcohol intake and the arrest of Michael Barrymore on suspicion of murder and sexual assault. Today we have photos of Bianca Gascoigne, Paul's stepdaughter.

Is It All About Timing?

time I seem to get most hits on this blog at around 1 a.m. in the morning UK time, when I'm usually sleeping.

I was wondering, therefore, if bloggers should time their posts so they are fresh when the most visitors tend to arrive? Or maybe by timing the post we could actually attract more visitors from a specific country? There again, perhaps it doesn't make the slightest difference when the new entries are published.

I must admit I haven't come up with a definite verdict as yet.

When I used to do mail order there were specific days when I preferred my mailshots to arrive and this seemed to reflect in the response percentage. Is it the same with blog posts?

If you have an opinion on this I'd be grateful for your comments.

By the way, if you want to know the time in a certain worldwide location write into a Google search time in New York, time in Delhi or whatever - and obviously click the search button!

Time is a strange thing. I'm about to have afternoon tea and yet it's only 10. a.m. in New York but it's already tomorrow in Australia! Of course, some say there is no such thing as time, but that's a whole different debate.

That's all for today.

Good luck,
Mike.

Chanelle HayesCelebrity watch: Yesterday's visits to my new Celebrity Insider blog was down to 446. The reason seems to be because I didn't get as many hits from Technorati tags as usual. Not sure why. Yesterday's main story was about Charlie Uchea and Chanelle Hayes, UK Big Brother housemates, together with six photos.
