Worldwide Blogging - But 95% Of Us Don't Have A Blog

We keep reading about the number of blogs that are in existence. I've seen figures suggested of between 50 and even 200 million and everyone seems to marvel at this fact.

However there is another way of looking at things:

For whatever figure is bandied about the fact remains that about 95% of the world population don't have a blog at the moment. If we see things from this angle it stresses the real potential of blogging. There is still a massive market out there waiting to be conquered - and a lot of money to be made!

I've written before about how we have to look at blogging from a worldwide perspective and not as a localised project. Sure there will be blogs for local things, of interest to local readers only but most have the potential to be reached by people from all over the world.

A friend researched the following figures. As to how accurate these are I have no idea, they could all be a figment of his fertile imagination for all I know! I reckon the real truth, as to the number of blogs, is very difficult to ascertain and even more difficult to break down into specific countries. Anyway, for what it's worth:
    Australia: approx 410,000 blogs
    Austria: approx 22,000
    Belgium: approx 105,000
    Brunei: approx 3,500
    Canada: approx 750,000
    China: approx 5.5 million
    Croatia: approx 45,000
    Czech: approx 5,500
    Denmark: approx 5,500
    Finland: approx 110,000
    France: approx 3.5 million
    Germany: approx 300,000
    India: approx 120,000
    Ireland: approx 79,000
    Israel: approx 110,000
    Italy: approx 220,000
    Japan: approx 4.4 million
    Malaysia: approx 12,000
    Netherlands: approx 650,000
    Philippines: approx 80,000
    Poland: approx 1.6 million
    Russia: approx 330,000
    South Korea: approx 15 million
    Spain: 1.7 million
    Ukraine: 55,000
    UK: 2.8 million
    United States: approx 15-30 million

Treat the above as purely entertainment value!

From my own point of view, it's interesting that for a long time my stats showed that my main visitors originated from the UK and USA - often as high as 85%. This is now altering with a shift towards more Asian visitors. UK and USA visitors presently make up 65% of my visitors with Asia now having risen to 15%.

I guess all of this just means: Think worldwide when considering affiliate and advertising programs.

Good luck,
Mike.
