Think Worldwide To Make Money

Sometimes I think it is easy to forget that blogging is a worldwide phenomena and not something related to one or two countries. It's easy to think of a blog as being just for your own country when the reality is that it's open house to all of the world.

"Okay, so what?" you may ask.

Well this does need consideration if, like me, the theme of your blog is money making. Are your adverts and affiliate schemes, for example, suitable for whoever arrives at your blog? Or are you just looking for sales from your own country? If you are, you are limiting your potential.

Let's see what I mean by looking at a few stats about this blog. Firstly, it has had visits from 108 different countries. Now it's true that the bulk of these are from the USA and the UK but this is gradually shifting as the blog gets more known on the search engines. If you look at my last three Weekly Reports you will see how Google referrals are increasing.

Back in October 2006 over 80% of visitors arrived either from the USA and the UK whereas now this figure is down to between 51% and 60% - depending on which tracker figures I use.

The chart below shows the continents with percentages that visit this blog.

The point I am trying to make is that if you want to make money there has to be something suitable for the majority of readers and not a select few.

Using my Amazon aStore as an example, this is at Amazon.UK. It is only really suitable, therefore, for UK residents. As only about 25% of my visitors are from the UK this means that I am losing the potential business of every 75 out of 100 people who turn up at the blog. In other words I'm only getting a quarter of the commission I could possibly earn.

I accept that some blogs are directed purely at a specific country but most aren't. We have to, therefore, think global in relation to any money making attempts. I think this is one of the reasons why things like the FriendFinder Group, which is suitable for the whole world, can prove successful. I'm not suggesting that you should become an affiliate, it is only an illustration of the range of worldwide products we perhaps should be looking for.

As per usual, I'm not going to say what you should do or where you should look. I'm simply sowing a few thought seeds and emphasising the point that blogging is worldwide and the products should match this. This does sometimes appear to be overlooked.

Good luck,
Mike.
