Make Money And Traffic With 20 Article Directories

Articles for moneyA lot of bloggers get very enthusiastic over the benefits of writing articles. These they then publish in one, or several, article directories and doing this, they claim, gets them lots of traffic.

In view of this I have listed below 20 Article Directories where you can publish articles. I also did another list quite a while back of 40 Article Directories

These directories are also places where you can obtain free content for your blogs, but personally I wouldn't go down this route. It's much better to produce your own original stuff for various reasons.

For those, who may not know, traffic from articles comes from the footnote and link which you can publish following your masterpiece.

There are hundreds of article directories so, with the twenty I have listed, I have also included their PageRank. Quality backlinks may help with search rankings and your own PageRank.

There are also several websites such as Helium whereby you can earn cash from your articles. Most of these, however, don't allow links to your own blog or website. So it's a choice of cash or traffic. As a trial with Helium I have built up a balance of $21.59 with just two articles.

Ads At End Of Posts 'Perform Well' And Make Money

I just wanted to carry on briefly from yesterday's post and to tie it in with my belief that text ads outperform banners when making money with blogs.

I have written before that text ads, placed within or at the end of an individual post, work well for me. They make more money generally speaking that most banners and widgets which are not specific to a particular blog niche.

I've noticed that Google actually recommend this themselves. They write:
"For example, on pages where users are typically focused on reading an article, ads placed directly below the end of the editorial content tend to perform very well. It is almost as if users finish reading and ask themselves, 'What can I do next?' Precisely-targeted ads can answer that question for them."
I have to agree with this entirely. Try it and see. Not just with AdSense but also write your own small text ads, for whatever you may be promoting, and see if this increases your clicks and earnings/commission.

Good luck,
Mike.

Regular New Blood Is Needed To Make Money

New blood - DraculaI've said before about how there is a lot of regurgitation on the subject of how to make money with blogs. I like at times to question the blogging status quo.

For instance: are subscribers all they are cracked up to be when it comes to making money?

Everyone tells us that a blog needs subscribers. No doubt you have a few hundred, as I have, but do they actually earn you any money?

Now I'm not for one minute saying that we shouldn't try to gain subscribers. It's good to see familiar faces and I appreciate my regular visitors. But I ask again: is this where the money is actually made?

I don't think so.

A subscriber will arrive to read your latest post because he or she likes what you write about. Great. But isn't that most likely all they will do? Will they, for instance, click on your ads or anything else you may be promoting?

I feel there is less chance of them doing so than say new blood who are visiting the blog for the first time or only pop in occasionally. These are the readers who are most likely to do more than simply read the post and then move on. The odds are that they will stay on the blog for longer.

My assumption is therefore that an important task is to search for new blood and new visitors as this is where our 'real' money will be made.

It will always be a necessary continuous challenge to attract regular new readers.

I have already said that we should encourage subscribers but there needs to be a balance of regular and new visitors.

Subscribers have a value in that they probably trust you and a relationship is formed. They may therefore be more persuaded by your recommendations. So if something is promoted properly, within a post, then this can make money. They are also more likely to link to your posts (and so help to attract new visitors). Plus there are other benefits to having a solid subscriber base.

Dracula by Fernando FernandezI guess what I'm saying is that with a money making blog it's no good just building a large subscriber base and then sitting back. It will always be important to find different ways of attracting new blood.

As with Dracula new blood is needed to keep a blog alive.

Just a thought!

Good luck,
Mike.

A Few Ways To Make Money

Not strictly about blogging but a few money making ideas I've come across this week.

On eBay
I wrote a post previously about making money through misspellings on eBay. This mentioned the website fat fingers which can help with this.

I've now realised that you can view eBay entries, where some may have misspellings, by using the * symbol when searching on their site. An example of this would be wedg* if searching for Wedgwood china or pottery. Many people spell this incorrectly.

The idea is that misspelled products are likely to get less bids than those spelt properly. Therefore you can buy cheaply and sell on for a profit. That's the theory anyway.

money from virtual currencyDealing In Virtual Currency
This is something I've only just come across but it seems it has a potential for making money. The website is Sparter. It's all about buying and selling virtual currency associated with online games. You can buy and sell the currency on Sparter for games such as Warcraft, EverQuest and so on. Based on an eBay format.

Second Life moneyMoney From Second Life Game
It's also said that the game Second Life has made a few players quite rich. One was Anshe Chung who reportedly makes more than $150,000 a year from the game.

Money can be earned in various ways including designing avatars or by buying land and renting it to others etc. Not something for me. I'm still interested in the 'real' world.

Cash In Your Old Mobile Phone
People are always changing their mobile phones and the old ones languish in a drawer somewhere. There are websites, such as mazuma who will buy old mobiles (UK only) for cash.

How To Make MoneyThough early days there are a few more ways to make money on my new blog How To Make Money.

Good luck,
Mike.

How To Make Money - But I've Spent Some As Well

I've done something I said I wouldn't do.

My mission was to try and make money with free blogs and without any capital expenditure.

Well I've spent some money - £4.98 to be precise! So I'll have to subtract that amount from the next Money Making Weekly Report.

I've started a new blog How To Make Money and I thought I'd try a .com address for it. This is where the money went.

I shan't be buying new URL's for this blog, or my celebrity blog, and will stick to my original 'rules' with them.

It will be interesting to see if a .com does carry any more weight than a blogspot.com. I guess it will with sponsored posts, at least with PayPerPost. They have lots of offers where blogspot.com isn't acceptable.

While on the subject of PPP I wrote a post on this a couple of days ago and it was interesting that some of the comments left, from bloggers I respect, weren't exactly in agreement with me. They had differing opinions about PayPerPost.

I think it's great when people have strong opinions. All I'll do in reply is to show you my PayPal receipts over the last seven days from PayPerPost ...

Received from PayPerPost in last 7 days
As you will see (though you may have to click to enlarge the chart) PPP have paid me $116.31 in the last seven days (the £70 is where I withdrew some money from PayPal).

Anyway, back to the new blog. It's still very much a work in progress and like most new blogs will take a few months to get established.

If anyone has any money making tips or ideas I'll be happy to publish them with a link to your blog. Mustn't conflict with anything I promote and no dodgy pay per click things '... send me $49 and I'll tell you how to make ...' Use the contact link in the side column for any submissions.

All of the posts will have labels and these will be shown in the right hand column. Posts will, therefore, be available for as long as the blog is published.

Good luck,
Mike
