Your Blog Goldmine

At the beginning of a month, when I look back at the previous one, I'm usually surprised as to what have been the most visited blogs.

These were the top five most visited on Mikes Money Making Mission for October 2008.

I think what surprises me is how the most visited are usually quite old posts. Four of the five are from 2007, over 18 months old, plus they aren't ones that I would consider to be the blog's 'best' posts.

This illustrates that often the right keywords and general SEO are more important than what is actually written. At least as far as getting the search engine referrals is concerned.

Of course this is only part of the story. If the posts aren't well written or aren't quite what the reader expects then they will quickly move on.

To attract visitors, that will make us money, I look at it as being a twofold project.

(1) Good keywords, title and SEO to get the referral in the first place and
(2) Good content, that is of value, to retain the reader.

Everything post we write is important as we might only get one chance to impress that particular reader. This means that we can't really afford to let our standards drop.

A blog's back catalogue of posts can be a goldmine - if we have done the basics properly. Golden gems might be hiding somewhere deep in the archives.
