There I was last Tuesday saying that I didn't do very well with Amazon and then, this month in five days, I've had nine orders! This mini rush got me thinking about Christmas, which I didn't really want to do. I'm one of those people who keep saying that Christmas starts too early and should be restricted to the month of December. I never, for instance, do my own Xmas shopping until a couple of weeks before the big day but ...
... if you are in the business of making money from the holiday period you have to start early. Really you should already be up and running.
If blogs are going to make any money with products, as opposed to the likes of ads, links and reviews this is the time to try and do so.
It's the time to get going with Amazon, WidgetBucks and any of the other 'shopping' style programs. Let's face it, if you can't sell at Christmas, you are unlikely to do much the rest of the year.
Products are great if they are relative to your niche but when you have something like this blog it's not quite so easy - but we can all have a go at this time of year.
So it's time to get Amazon and WidgetBucks etc. campaigns revved up on our blogs.
The two I've mentioned both work in different ways. With Amazon affiliates get paid a percentage of any orders but with the likes of WidgetBucks, ShoppingAds etc the revenue comes from clicks. Depends what you prefer.
One thing I've noticed with WidgetBucks is that some products have much greater click values. For example, digital cameras pull in a lot more revenue per click than say movies - you'll need eight times as many movie clicks to get the same amount as one digital camera click. It's, therefore, useful to experiment with different categories to see what pulls in the most.
As regards Amazon their new(ish) Amazon Search Widget (see left hand side column) seems effective because it has a selection of products plus a search box - a double whammy.
There are a host of other affiliate and shopping programs out there. It's a matter of joining and getting on with it - while everyone is in a buying mode.
I'll mention again that WidgetBucks are still offering a $25 bonus for signing up - can't be bad!
Whatever you do.
Good luck,
Mike.
