I was taken back to my early days of blogging today when I saw I had $10 from myLot.The $10 isn't important, it won't increase my blogging income by much, but I remembered how back in 2006 myLot helped me get my blog moving traffic wise.
As a newbie I didn't have massive traffic back then but I wrote on November 19 2006 that I had 58 referrals from myLot on the previous day. At the time I thought that was great.
I don't do anything with myLot nowadays as it is a bit time consuming. All I ever do is very occasionally put a myLot ad at the end of a post. This is how I got the $10 - because of the referrals I have made.
As I see it if you want to earn just a few dollars, say $1 or $2 a day, then myLot is a genuine place to do this. They pay out through PayPal once earnings total over $10.
After a while it's also possible to leave links in discussions that you start or contribute to - and this was how I was able to get referrals from myLot. The referrals were, to me at that time, more important than earning a few dollars.
This is the sort of thing you have to do when first entering the blogging world. Try different places from where you may be able to get referrals. When I started out I was quite disciplined and tried to find something like this every day. Somewhere I could leave my blog links, be that directories, forums, free ads, things like MyBlogLog, social networking, suggestions I mentioned here or programs such as myLot.
Doing something to try and attract visitors on a regular basis works. Okay some might not be effective but in a month you'd have 30 places which might just send you traffic and in three months ... well, a lot more.
Programs such as myLot can contribute to building a blog - but don't expect to make much money directly from them. The money making comes from the traffic and the programs and products which you are promoting on your own blog.
Good luck,
Mike.
