Speed Up To Make More Money With Blogs
Diposting oleh

Doesn't it annoy you when some websites or blogs are painfully slow to load? It does me, so much so that often I don't bother to wait and move on to something else. Most of us have a broadband connection but just think how slow some sites must be on dial up.
I read somewhere that in the US slightly over 10% still use a dial up connection for the Internet.
"So what?" you might say. But if our blogs are slow to load doesn't it follow that this could be costing a money making blog - well money.
I'm no tech expert so I won't go into the ins and outs of how to speed up loading times. What I have noticed myself though is that some widgets and photos slow things considerably. Maybe a couple less widgets and optimizing images could speed things up.
It's something we should no doubt look at because those dial up people - every one in ten hits - otherwise are going to move on without clicking on our ads or promotions. Also a lot of broadband visitors will also take umbrage as they expect things to pop up pretty quickly.
Slow loading may cost us potential money, but I read recently that there could also be more to it than this.
I've no idea if it's 100% true but I've heard that Google have loading times included within their search engine algorithm. If this is right then a blog could be penalised if it loads at a snails pace.
Two reasons therefore to try and keep loading times at a reasonable level.
(1) It'll cost possible sales or clicks if visitors get fed up waiting.
(2) It'll damage search engine rankings (allegedly).
It's something I'm going to look at on my own blogs.
There are several free website speed checkers about such as the one at Self SEO. They write about slow loaders:
"It is estimated that if a page doesn't load within 5-8 seconds you will lose 1/3 of your visitors."I think it's worth thinking about. If our aim is to make money, then every improvement we make must help.
Good luck,
Mike.

Don't Put All Your Money Making Traffic In One Basket

The lesson I've given myself today is a reminder that I should never put all of my eggs in one basket. In this case the basket relates to traffic sources. Oh, and another other thing as well is that I mustn't get too complacent. On lots of my blogs my biggest referrer is Google and it was driven home to me that this is a little dangerous. Fall out with Google, or if they dramatically alter their algorithm, and my traffic could take a dive.
A while back I wrote how, on my blog about television presenter Konnie Huq, the traffic collapsed when the blog was no longer on the first Google search page and their referrals stopped overnight. Not only that but AdSense would no longer appear.
As far as I can see it wasn't anything I had done. Konnie Huq made a comment about human rights in China and I quoted this in a post. This brought me over 4000 hits in one day and most were from China. They left hundreds of vitriolic and obscene comments about Konnie.
Google mustn't have liked this so bang went the blog's search engine placing - it disappeared completely and referrals stopped as did the AdSense ads.
Things for the blog have now improved slightly and I get Google referrals again now and just this week I've been able to get AdSense ads on there again.
But now I've had another blog hit! I was getting about 700 average hits a day and half of these came from the Google search engine. Wham bang, overnight all of these referrals disappeared completely and from a steady 700 hits a day the blog is now getting just 350.
If this second blog will correct itself in time, I've no idea.
To me though the message is clear: Don't rely on one major source for traffic and continually work at finding new avenues that will refer hits.
To get things in perspective I've got over 50 blogs and this has only happened to two of them. I find it annoying, however, that there are powers out there that hold the success of blogs in the palm of their hands. Nice to use a good cliche!
But it makes life interesting. Get behind me complacency.
Good luck,
Mike.

How myLot Are Sending Money Making Traffic To My Blog
Diposting oleh

Earlier this month I wrote a post myLot And How To get Traffic. I didn't expect to write about this again. Today, however, I noticed on my stats that myLot are still sending me referrals even though I haven't been to their site or joined in any discussions for ages and ages.
Okay, it's not a massive amount of referrals - 241 this month so far - but I thought it may be of interest.
The referrals are because myLot members can now have their blogs listed on the myLot site. I entered my celebrity blog when I last paid a visit and haven't really given it a thought since then. But now I'm getting referrals.
By coincidence I just went to myLot to have a look, clicked on the 'blogs' tag, and there was my blog listed on the front page, right at the top. It obviously won't stay there but it does explain why I'm getting the referrals.
Anyway, thought the info may be of use. I'm not saying that it will definitely work for you but my basic premise has always been to list blogs wherever possible, even if it sometimes seems a waste of time. As in life ... you never know ...
Good luck,
Mike.
P.S. While on this traffic subject the following sites, I have mentioned before, are still sending me referrals. For reference, this month to date: Zimbio - 710; Buzzfeed - 294; Mahalo - 192.

Sign Up With WidgetBucks And Get $25
Diposting oleh

As regular readers may know I haven't really been one of WidgetBucks biggest fans but if this program does interest you now is the time to join.
Why?
Because it's their first birthday and, if you sign up, you'll get $25 - and free money is always nice!
Of course there are conditions. I'll let them explain, this is what they say:
Okay, let me give my honest opinion about Widget Bucks.
On the plus side I have received $172.21 from them and this was all paid on schedule, no problems in this direction. I've also got another $32.54 in the kitty - payments are made by PayPal once $50 is achieved.
So that's okay.
What I did previously find though was that:
(1) Some of the widgets slowed down the loading of my blogs.
(2) The return on CPM (cost per thousand impressions) for international impressions i.e. non USA is very low. However, in saying this, some widgets are based on a pay per click basis and this, depending on the products, is much better.
You can see what I last wrote about WidgetBucks on my post Money Making Spring Clean. Also note the comment on this from Dean Jutilla of WidgetBucks.
I actually took all of the widgets off my blogs a while back but I'm trying them out again now. I have found that the ones I am using at the moment (see header ad on Celebrity Insider) are loading much quicker now.
There is also a bigger choice of widgets. As well as Shopping ones there are also now 'Local' and 'Travel' widgets. These come in a variety of sizes.
I'm actually trying out the Local version which, to quote them, gives, 'relevant, real-time local content, such as weather, gas prices, top local businesses and restaurants.'
I'll leave it at that but, if you are thinking about joining WidgetBucks, it's probably a good time to join to get the $25.
Also, as I'm being honest, there is a referral program for introducing new members. It's not over generous but these are the terms:
And that's WidgetBucks!
Good luck,
Mike.
Why?
Because it's their first birthday and, if you sign up, you'll get $25 - and free money is always nice!
Of course there are conditions. I'll let them explain, this is what they say:
"To celebrate our first anniversary, we're reinstating our sign-up bonus that we offered during the first three months for all new publishers: $25 bonus when your account reaches $50."But be quick as the bonus is only applicable, as I understand it, to new affiliates for the month of October.
Okay, let me give my honest opinion about Widget Bucks.

"... you will receive a 5 percent referral fee based on the commissions earned by the people you refer. You'll receive this 5 percent for the full 12 months after the new member joins."In other words if you joined and earned $100 I as the referrer would get $5.
And that's WidgetBucks!
Good luck,
Mike.

Make Money As A Mystery Shopper
Diposting oleh

"Yes, but what else can you do to make money besides blogging?" some people ask. I guess blogging isn't for every one, so what about something like becoming a Mystery Shopper instead? There is a lot of rubbish written about the subject, quoting massive earnings, but in reality this isn't the case. Nevertheless, if you fancy getting paid for going out to dinner, shopping for clothes, taking a flight and reporting back as to how everything went, then this could be a viable option to blogging.
First you have to sign up with an agency, this should be free, and you are then sent assignments: such as buying a product, asking questions about an item or service, making a compliant and so on. You then have to report back with your findings.
Payments vary. In the UK these probably average - keeping it realistic - between £5 ($9) and £25 ($45) per job undertaken plus expenses. There can occasionally be other benefits such as being able to keep the purchases or enjoying a meal in a restaurant.
Agencies want all sorts of people as mystery shoppers including those with disabilities. The main requirement is a good standard of written and spoken English. It's important that the specifications of the job are followed exactly and that the responses of staff etc. are noted accurately.
A few agencies who recruit mystery shoppers in the UK are:
Grass Roots
Intelligent Marketing Solutions
NOP Mystery Shopping
Readers from USA and other countries will find similar agencies by doing a Google search.
Good luck,
Mike.

The Missing Link Will Get Search Engine Referrals
Diposting oleh
Unknown
di

There are several websites that will submit your blog to lots of search engines for free.I remember using these services when I started blogging but really they are a waste of effort as the search engines will find your site anyway - if you have inward bound links that is.
More importantly though we have to accept that three search engines dominate the market: Google, Yahoo! and Microsoft. comScore data for example shows that these three account for over 90% of searches. The August figures showed:
Yahoo! 19.6%
Microsoft 8.3%
Ask 4.8%
AOL 4.3%
I know from my own stats that most of my search engine referrals arrive from Google. I just looked at a couple of my celeb blogs and 77% of the search engine referrals were from Google.
It therefore makes sense to try and comply with what Google recommends. Read such things as their Webmaster Guidelines and Webmaster Central Blog for advice.
I received details of what Google's Maile Ohye has said about links and PageRank.
He said, "As many of you know, relevant, quality inbound links can affect your PageRank (one of many factors in our ranking algorithm). And quality links often come naturally to sites with compelling content or offering a unique service." My underlining.
It's not necessarily the number of links that matter but their quality. Their algorithm ignores spammy links or those from a spammy site.
It does seem that Google almost want links to happen naturally, no buying etc. So how do you do this? The following are suggestions from Maile Ohye to webmasters in general.
"Start a blog: make videos, do original research, and post interesting stuff on a regular basis. If you're passionate about your site's topic, there are lots of great avenues to engage more users. The advice is probably similar to what we have heard before.
Teach readers new things, uncover new news, be entertaining or insightful, show your expertise, interview different personalities in your industry and highlight their interesting side. Make your site worthwhile.
Participate thoughtfully in blogs and user reviews related to your topic of interest. Offer your knowledgeable perspective to the community.
Provide a useful product or service. If visitors to your site get value from what you provide, they're more likely to link to you."
I personally dislike being told what to do or how to do something by some big organisation or government but the reality is that, at the present time, Google is all powerful. Without their referrals several of my blogs wouldn't have worthwhile money making traffic.
As traffic to me is everything, in making money with blogs, I'll have to take heed of what they say and expect. At the moment that is ...
Good luck,
Mike.

myLot And How To Get Traffic To New Blogs
Diposting oleh

di
09.10
I was taken back to my early days of blogging today when I saw I had $10 from myLot.The $10 isn't important, it won't increase my blogging income by much, but I remembered how back in 2006 myLot helped me get my blog moving traffic wise.
As a newbie I didn't have massive traffic back then but I wrote on November 19 2006 that I had 58 referrals from myLot on the previous day. At the time I thought that was great.
I don't do anything with myLot nowadays as it is a bit time consuming. All I ever do is very occasionally put a myLot ad at the end of a post. This is how I got the $10 - because of the referrals I have made.
As I see it if you want to earn just a few dollars, say $1 or $2 a day, then myLot is a genuine place to do this. They pay out through PayPal once earnings total over $10.
After a while it's also possible to leave links in discussions that you start or contribute to - and this was how I was able to get referrals from myLot. The referrals were, to me at that time, more important than earning a few dollars.
This is the sort of thing you have to do when first entering the blogging world. Try different places from where you may be able to get referrals. When I started out I was quite disciplined and tried to find something like this every day. Somewhere I could leave my blog links, be that directories, forums, free ads, things like MyBlogLog, social networking, suggestions I mentioned here or programs such as myLot.
Doing something to try and attract visitors on a regular basis works. Okay some might not be effective but in a month you'd have 30 places which might just send you traffic and in three months ... well, a lot more.
Programs such as myLot can contribute to building a blog - but don't expect to make much money directly from them. The money making comes from the traffic and the programs and products which you are promoting on your own blog.
Good luck,
Mike.

Blogging Money Making Reality Check
Diposting oleh
Unknown
di

I think it is time to do another reality check about making money with blogging as there is so much garbage being written about the subject.Firstly, as a general rule - yes, there are always a few exceptions - blogging is not an overnight business. You can't simply set up a blog, write a few posts, slap on a few affiliate banners and expect to make money. It doesn't work like that.
Unfortunately, in most cases, you also need that special ingredient - time.
It takes time to build readership, subscribers and to make money.
I'm always reading about how someone or other made $xxxx amount of money in a few days but, quite frankly, I don't believe them. Most are actually trying to sell the reader something, so a few exaggerations are the order of the day.
The fact is that there is a lot of money to be made telling others how to do something or other - even if you can't actually do it yourself! Some of the offers on ClickBank show this to be true.
The problem is that some bloggers sign up to the likes of ClickBank and then write nonsense posts about how such and such plan will make heaps of money - even though they haven't made a cent or penny doing this themselves. But this is the reality of the 'how to make easy money' world.
I've been in the business opportunity market for years. I published magazines on the subject for over ten years. I've seen the scams and as a general rule: If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
The last thing I want to do is put people off trying to make money with blogging. I have proven to my own satisfaction, that this can be done and with free blogs and no capital outlay.
The truth is though that to make money with blogs you need traffic and good traffic at that, lots of it. The more the better.
You will find that with some affiliate money making programs you will often need thousands of clicks to get just one order.
An example of this. On my celebrity blogs I promote IcePoster which, as the name suggests, has celebrity posters. You would therefore think that this is the right product for celebrity blogs.
My stats show, however, that I only get an order for every 2275 clicks to their site.
Okay that's maybe an extreme example but it's often the case with such programs. By trial and elimination I've found a few money making programs that do work well for me (AdSense, FriendFinderGroup for example) but I had to wade through a lot of chaff to discover this.
When bloggers talk about their earnings the money often comes from writing reviews and sponsored posts as opposed to ads, banners and clicks. This side of the business can be profitable but, of course, takes a bit more effort and time.
And some affiliate programs offer free websites. Great! But you still need traffic, and lots of it to generate sales. And this is what everything boils down to ... traffic, hits or whatever you want to call them.
Traffic is really the only secret to making money with blogging.
Good luck,
Mike.
